Yeah, didn't mean to imply a specious lift. But it seemed there was certainly some reference -- intentional or otherwise -- going on there.
I should mention these two Japanese version of the Argent CD's have spectacular sound. Hearing them now 30 years later, not so sure about the prog element (save for Lothlorien), but I guess that's for the reviews.

^ I can see the similarities. Probably a subconscious reference rather than a straight lift.
Capability Brown also covered it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqb2Pu9imWM

Actually I'm thinking both lyrically and musically. The lyrics of course deal with betrayal. The music -- the thump of the bass drum, the finger-picked guitar line, the dynamics -- reminds me of The Chain.

Do you mean lyrically(!) or musically? If the latter, any particular tracks on Rumours you'd cite?
Incidentally, Three Dog Night did a great version of "Liar".

I guess I can hear some similarities. Argent's Liar is far better than that nasty Rumors album.

I just got two Japanese releases of Argent's first two albums, Argent and Ring of Fire, which I remember fondly from my younger days.
I hadn't heard either of the Argent albums in probably 30 years, but while listening to them, it occurred to me that the song Liar, from the first album, is without doubt the template from which Fleetwood Mac's Rumour's album was built.
For those who are familiar with both, whatd'ya say? It seems to me Lindsay Buckingham was probably a big Argent fan.
