Caveat - PMT consideration?

Calgary's FFWD Weekly Newspaper called Caveat "progressive melodic metal at its best from some of the most technically adept musicians in the city." You can read the article here.

 

Greece's Flights of Pegasus says Caveat's "powerful characteristic is how tight, technically and daring in inspiration they sound. It is certain that their motives are creativity, good will and love for what they do. It is one of the rare circulations that direct the audience to enjoy good stuff performed by skilled musicians." Caveat was a featured artist in the Hot Flashes section of Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles issue #109 that says "From Alberta, we've got Caveat playing a thrash/death/prog hybrid on their manic new record Red-the hybrid emerges as the Canadian prairies' signature sound. Red has the listener solidly impressed at Caveat's musicianship, songwriting and spastic speed.

 

Caveat was chosen as a featured artist in the Podsafe Music Network Newsletter for March 08.

 

The title track "Red" is #6 of the Top 10 metal songs played on the Podsafe Music Network for the week ending 1 March 08.

 

Netherlands' Lords of Metal gave "Red" an 85/100. "Caveat has given a twist to complexity and diversity, but without overdoing the technique too much. Not just some plain metal but a load of extreme progressive death metal combined with funk and jazz parts, which are weighed down by unusual, surprising changes in atmosphere and pace and peculiar, wondrous arrangements. The result? An intriguing, monstrous musical trip of almost three quarters of an hour. Caveat was named as Artist Spotlight at TheProgFiles.com for January 2008. Riding on the tails of a top notch review, this feature includes an interview with Caveat's Greg Musgrave. They summed it up by saying "Caveat - caution: a warning against certain acts: "a caveat against unfair practices" Here's your warning... These Canadian Prog metal masters play with such ferocity and technical expertise your listening appendages may very well bleed from the crushing musical torrent. Caveat had the honour of being named among the Top 3 local acts for 2007 by Calgary's CJSW 90.9FM.

 

Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles gives "Red" an 8 out of 10 and says "Caveat is a manic, speedy, spastic-addled band that combines the best elements of fast melodic death, thrash, prog, and straight-up metal to create a surprisingly cohesive and interesting record. Call this western Canada’s emerging signature sound, Caveat doing the scene proud with this strong release that plays well, the listener being impressed and re-impressed as the record continues." The album also made it onto editor Tim Henderson's and reviewer David Perri's Brave Picks lists for issue #107.

 

The Prog Files give "Red" a 4.5 out of 5 and call it "full of surprises, the band tastefully colors the canvas of their music... a not-so-expected element of hard-core bands. I have to sum this album up with the word: diverse. Caveat is in a league of their own granting us bone crushing metal that pays homage to the prog greats... a fine marriage indeed." Neo-Zine calls Caveat "both sweet and scalding", with "Red" being "so fresh and new that its hot! The band seems comfortable at any speed or tempo, and they create a structure that allows them to adjust those things very effectively. Of course, the pit friendly mosh parts are a favorite. They are tempered with nice melodic passages and sweet sounding solos. This CD might go over with a larger segment of music fans, but it will probably be be just "hard" enough for extremists, purists, and hard core genre conservatives." Red has been tearing up campus/community stations across Canada staying in the Top 10 Metal charts for the 3 months since its release.

 

The Metal Observer gives "Red" an 8.5/10 calling it "a foundation made up by at times dizzyingly complex rhythms and breaks, held together by immensely catchy melodies, everything topped off by the very varied vocal approach, which brings us guttural Death growls as well as aggressive vocals and clear singing as well, sometimes layered together or going hand in hand as if it was the easiest thing in the world, while the music runs circles around you." MetalNetRadio.com charted "Red" at #25 for all metal albums released in the month of June 07.
