I generally like this new Esperanza's album - jazzy r'n'b, a bit nostalgic. I saw her live 5-6 yrs ago in Budapest MOL jazz fest, she warmed up Tomasz Stanko that night - wasn't impressed her pop-jazz/acid jazz too much then (she wasn't Grammy winner still :) ). It looks she founded better sound for herself with new album

I prefer earlier Rush (till 1979) - still raw their sound. Starting from early 80s they sound so polished. Still strong Geddy Lee's vocals though

I thought it was interesting they filled the void Police left (when they folded) playing reggaefied rock aka regatta de blanc

Waited for this song - being fan of Carla Bley and Julie Tippett both never knew this album exists

Hi

Seems an age since the last show - and a good plan to broadcast in part of the Easter break to shorten our time away, came to nought, when we discovered the whole SU building was closed down after 9pm local time - nevertheless we're back again.

New new and new old recordings have been found in the last 4 or 5 weeks, deserving exposure through the airwaves. Nice fusion of jazz funk from a New Orleans band new to me, Papa Grows Funk - and something spanking new from another of that city's residents, Dr John. New jazz from Brad Mehldau Trio, Corea-Burton and EST, thanks to those who recommended the metal jazz of TRAM, and yet another band "toning-down" the heavy metal songbook in the form of the German, Jazzkantine. Still making my mind up about  this European fad of electro-swing, this time from the French group, Caravan Palace - what do you make of this? A bit of blues (again) from the Ford Blues Band (doing Bloomfield), the Red Devils (and I thought Lester Butler only released one album before his death). At least 4 psyschedelic tracks from the past and brade new (including something the new and most interesting Paul Weller album) . Check out Neuschwanstein, a late 70's German neo-prog band, sounding at times to be a cross between early Genesis and the Strawbs, with a Shaun Guerin sound-alike providing the vocals. Finally thanks to Scott for introducing me to the first Bears album and the off-the-wall lyrics of Bob Drake. Enjoy:

It has been a long break - and the plan to broadcast during the break came to nothing because of building closure in the evening. Oh well had a good rest...

Do loaded the Romano et al album, hope to listen in depth this weekend. Anything else of interest - have you heard the new EST?
