Hi Dick - good to have you back! Every year I think this, but maybe this year really wil be the one in which I stop "lurking". There, I've said it...

(You'd never have played "prunk" on Jazz Ffollies)

At the suggestion of heavy fusion, gives me a chance to rifle through a few bands for tracks to play in a couple of weeks' time.

In the meanwhile.......

Not surprising still on the catch up wrt music(s) discovered over the last 4 months - the summer seems to be the time to issue the more obscure stuff and avoid being buried with the Christmas lead-up and an overwhelming glut of "Best of compilations"....

Slava recommended Dave Holland, whilst chatting during the last show,  as this great bassist indulging in jazz rock of the best quality. More Bushman's Revenge (btw appearing at London's Vortex on 9th Nov) - and other Nordic bands such as the avant jazz group Fire!. Interesting new release in the form of "Shout!" from (the UK-underplayed) Govt Mule - hey what's with all these exclamation marks? A sample from the disappointing Howling Wolf tribute album by Omar Dykes. More from the archives in the form of the early 70's latin rock of Naked Lunch; nice brass rock (with dodgy lyrics) by Galliard.  A breadth of avant rock from David Sylvian, Primus, and Maynard James  Keenan (aka APC). A request for more Nick Drake... And finally something from my current favourite prog band, Germany's (?) RPWL. Interesting times?

Still didn't listen this newest Fire! album, but their previous Fire! Orchestra album (released earlier this year) is fantastic - progressive big band mixed with fusion guitars and some avant-garde jazz elements

Tord Gustavsen perfectly represents classic "ECM sound" - chamber, clear and ...emotionless. Excellent sound mix though - as always with ECM :)
