Only just put tomorrow night's show together, having been away since Saturday morning, but no apologies for airing some tunes played before. Time catches up when you realise Getz/Giberto's 'Girl From Ipanema' is 50 years old, and with the added excuse that football's World Cup starts Friday in Brazil, a timely play. Couple of other collaborations: the legendary tune (really?, this was news to me) by Canada's Max Webster & Rush. Then Chicago with the Beach Boys (the latter I see, are playing a monster gig at the Epsom Race Course soon: I trust not at the seat prices charged at their last London gig). Otherwise amongst all this excellent music, the only new material is from the excellent Mats Morgan.

as I remember my time in UK, any temperature higher than +22C has been counted as "extremely hot summer day" After some really hot days (up to +30C) we have really cool/pleasant weather now ,between 20C and 24C

I've seen EST live once around ten years ago in small Serbian town near Bosnian border - local jazz enthusiasts organized jazz fest.

You can imagine sleepy Southern town where nothing happened during last three hundred years, lazy homeless dogs on main street, locals spending time drinking coffee and speaking about politics outside, etc, etc

Local hall was half empty (free entry concert!)and even those who came obviously looked a bit surprised with EST music

All looked quite surrealistic

saw them at nearby Leicester - excellent set. Not long after Jan Garbarek had come though. Audiences were good numbers. Nothing like that in the last 10 years

and Esperanza Spalding - I saw her next year, on MOL jazz fest in Budapest, she still didn't receive her Grammy and played just as opener for Stanko

It's quite impressive to see her singing and playing vertical bass

EST refreshed interest to modern jazz, lots of clones around but no-one repeated their success

too many clones/imitators., but the vast major don't have the lightness or the sense of fun of EST. However, I rather like GoGo Penguin who admit the EST influence.

I think there are a few German recordings with Sting, that didn't get the  hard marketing outside Germany. Rumour: there is an album of Sting with Jack Bruce singing Kurt Viel (sp)

It may or may not the last show of the academic year, depends on studio availability next week, being out of term. However, we have an excellent show this week. The first 30-35minutes is filled with new jazz. More Mats Morgan,  our favourite album for the third week running - and we ain't the only radio station to say so. After Spanish, Swedish, Brazilian and Hungarian blues, found some Italian blues.Something from the heavily TV advertised Led Zeppelin remasters (3rd time???) but personally not so impressed with outtakes that come with LZ2. Also in 2 minds wrt another Steve Hackett Genesis Revisited album - but it'll see us out Thursday night. After a couple of inferior Echolyn albums to come my way, 'Suffocating The Bloom' greatly makes up for those disappointments and reminds me of a prog band that sound refreshingly different. And musician of the term, doctor McGill guests on a couple of tunes by  A Triggering Myth.
