Thanks a lot Dick! Have to leave now, but I had a great 2 hours. I'll try to be there again next week, reestablishing old habits. :)

Happy new year everybody

As ever (IMHO) another interesting mix of musics to kick off the year. A tribute or three to Lemmy, in part after a dig into the Hawkwind back catalogue. And the artist of the term is Gary Lucas. New jazz from Act Records: Iirio Rantala  & Slettahjell/Reiersrsud, plus more Swiss jazz(rock) from Sha's Feckel.   Then the music ranges from metal prog, to an electronic version of serious music, to 60's folk and a belated discovery with southern rockers Pot Liquor. And then there is master re-arranger Hector Zazou doing nice things to a 80's disco classic. Enjoy.

Apologies for this late posting of this playlist, I just have had long weekend catching up with the rest of the immediate Heath clan in Surrey, and across 3 days enjoyed a number of  belated Christmas/New year/birthday parties. However, most this show came to together last week but I had some flexibility, and alas with the news of the untimely death of David Bowie, a chance to buy and include something from 'Black Star'. However, the show has a slightly Canterbury flavour with Soft Machine's 'Fourth' remastered, Hugh Hopper and Mashu, (based on a request for some crossover) Karl Jenkins, and one of those new so-called Italian Canterbury bands (sic) Homunculus Re. Been listening to a handful Ladbrook Grove* bands recently, and couldn't resist one of my favourite tunes, the post psychedelic rock'n'roll of Pink Fairies' 'Uncle Harry's Last Freak' which I saw played live by the band ... dare I say it ...back in 1971 at RHC London University. We continue to feature our musician of the term, Gary Lucas, demonstrating his range and perhaps why the New York Times amongst other journals, call him one of the top 100 guitarists in the world.

*BTW I left a quiz question hanging last Thursday, i.e. what is the connection of London's  Ladbrook Grove music and other arts fraternity, with the Blue Oyster Cult? Answer: Michael Moorcock the science fiction writer, lived in the  Ladbrook Grove area, and perhaps best known for the Jerry Cornelius books (and a movie). He also wrote the lyrics for some of BOC's  tunes, e.g. 'Black Blade'.

For Angelo and the other regulars:

Deliberately little in the way of connection between most tunes/artists selected, other than to remind that Gary Lucas is our musician of the term (just received Gary's approval), and Peter Hammill comes up twice, hopefully demonstrating his range from prog to punk vocals. There is also some newish prog from a part resurrected Flash and the Polish band Arlon.

Thanks to Gary Lucas for acknowledging us featuring him as 'Musician of the Term' and in particular by supplying copies of his two albums ('Stereopticon' and 'Fleischerei'), out over the next couple of weeks. John Zorn has been prolific through 2015 wrt releases with his name on the front cover, yet another in the territory of seeming like the Tony Williams Lifetime on steroids and John Medeski again hammering the Hammond. Recent good feedback re USA band Animation in Miles Davis mode circa 1973 or 4, means another nibble into their album 'Machine Language'. The Frank Zappa radio stations only release here, is an example of bowlderisation... not 'b*****dization' as per the liner notes... ie edited version of songs with debatable lyrics... but the silly sods have done it with instrumentals as well. DOH??? Sticky fingers on the new Steve(n) Wilson '41/2' album. And then more from my favourite Cardiac's album 'Songs To God'.

A couple of tracks selected following hearing these with my IPod on random play. Otherwise either new releases or bands that interconnect with The Cardiacs (including Steve Wilson singing Tim Smith). Hence more from the two excellent Gary Lucas albums released very recently, the new Panzerballett and Naima releases. I'm wondering if Dream Theater have run out of steam with 'The Astonishing'. And then a reminder of another major rock star, Paul Kantner, who died in the last few days. And more x-rated William Burroughs....
