New jazz from Cuneiform, e.g. the UK's Empirical, Ed Palmero BB (largely reinterpreting Zappa) and the excellent 30's Jewish jazz of Fleiserei. Cardiacs and friends of The Cardiacs feature again. Canterbury represented by The Machine Gong and Dave Stewart. Enjoy

Yet another excellent new release from Gary Lucas, this time with the Hungarian group Pearly Clouds, reflecting Gary's musical depth and breadth. Newie from Manchester's GoGo Penguin, having signed to Blue Note Records. At last got the Cardiacs' 'Garage Concerts', an impressive live album showing how tight this band was playing complex arrangements. New blues from The Record Company and Tedeschi-Trucks Band. One of my favourite bands of the last 3 years, also have a newie in the form of Motorpsycho's 'Here Be Monsters'. Then expect  the unexpected mix.

Continuing to play new music, including GoGo Penguin (sold out for tonight's Manchester gig, as I write), Snarky Puppy, Pearly Clouds, Motorpsycho, The Tedeschi Trucks Band,     and a two piece, The TwoTens, said by some to be the next White Stripe. Then dipping into the archives. Listen out for a little experiment, running together essentially the same composition by Mussorgski but arranged for three different types of instrumentation.

Apologies for the late posting, other things on my mind last weekend. Decided I have been using a lot new recordings recently, so to effect a change I've sneaked back into the more familiar parts of the archives, to retrieved a few favourite albums which haven't been played for a few years. The only new albums or not previously played albums are The Bad Plus with a decontruct of a Queen hit, an early John Hammond Jr recording, French metal proggers Orenda and of course Pearly Clouds (CD out very soon), featuring our musician of the term, guitar maestro Gary Lucas (a couple of other Lucas tracks here too, featuring his wizardry with a monster box of effects). Otherwise the usual unusual mix.

As a reminder, this is that last show of term, before a 4 week break. Plenty of Keith Emerson for obvious reasons, plus the great Brazilian percussionist Nano Vasconcelos and a reminder of a familar George Martin composition. Thanks to Moonjune Records, some interesting jazz rock by Beledo. Saved to the last, probably the best examples of Gary Lucas as composer and player, and no doubt what  many people will recognise, i.e. the first two tracks on Jeff Buckley's Grace album. More folk by Nick Drake for friends in Manchester and Gren Bartley, former colleague at this radio station, now 10 years as a professional musician and continually gaining a real reputation as a folk guitarist and vocalist.
