Got interviewed on BBC Radio Leicester this afternoon on the Jonathon Lampon Lunchtime Show, with repect of me doing about  30 years of specialist student radio. In the UK you can hear it on I-Player if you go to Radio Leicester's website - and you'll get a few insights about me and the how the show evolved. Alas with playlists and computer generated music choices, I only got to play one obscurity but otherwise pretty safe tune Applesauces's 2000 release (Chicago only???)  New Day - I had something from the new Nima Collective album lined-up but somehow it was avoided...

Just confirmed with our new station manager, that ALT2 will be back on air  from the first Thursday in October from 8pm and probably through to 11pm.  I've gone rather berserk with gathering music over the last 3 months so expect the usual wrt  new jazz and definitely expect the unusual wrt not heard so much (if at all),  elsewhere but deserves exposure.

So for example music will range from Antoine Farad's new solo album to the forgotten brass jazzrock of Rock Workshop of the early 70's, (fronted by the late Alex Harvey). Might sample something from the British power trio The Brew*: cutting through the hype of better guitarist than Hendrix - wot?? - there are moments of excellence I've not heard from a rock band for a long time. And we will be delving into fusions of east European, eastern and middle eastern music with virtually anything (e.g. came across an Albanian jazz album which included a cover of Nick Drake a couple of days ago!!!!

As ever requests are asked and taken - as long as we can find the track. As yet not thought who could be the featured artist this coming term (remembering last year Kevin Gilbert Captain Beefheart, Gary Lucas featured and there was a weekly prog rock covers section). And as ever, any independent artists looking for radio air time, don't forget the ALT2  (hint to Janeen, Brickhouse).

The show continues to provide Jazzwise magazine with a monthly top ten plays chart, with positions usually determined by listener feedback, so tune in and have your say.

More news before we go on air again.

* Anybody heard of this band before???

A long way still to go wrt dipping into all the albums that came my way in the last 4 months, so expect some variety of new material. Peter Hammill spot continues with two samples from both Prog and Punk songbooks. Came across the Malibooz who write and play pastiches of 60's Brit Invasion tunes, so throwing a few others of the ilk, Sloan and something from a one off album by the Lilys. More from friend of the show, Antoine Fafard's new album Solus Operandi. Reminder of a great musical loss last week, that of Bert Jansch. After some positive feedback upon airing the  USA Rai(?) band Beats Antique last Thursday, something from their latest. And a couple each from two new jazz albums, the fusion of Oz Noy and the straighter jazz of Sam Crockatt Quartet.

A couple of things to watch outwrt the next ALT2:
a) Some emphasis on Hammond organ based tunes,
b) a brief tributes to David Bedford who died recently
c) a couple of tunes from the new supergroup Levin Torn & White

(also look out for day/time details of the rebroadcast versions of the forthcoming show)

I heard you had extremely warm first half of autumn in England this year :). Here the temperature is almost 0 at night time, so the winter isn't far

Need to go - thank for nice evening, I opened my radio season today. Hear you next week.

BTW, did you hear new NP Molvaer's album, new band and a bit more "rocky" sound...
