This band is filled with top notch musicians, all went to great solo projects also. But it all started with the great Jazz fusion band Return to Forever. Pick your favorite musician from this amazing band.

Best or favorite????
Aren't they all the best in their zone?? How do you want to come to the conclusion Chick Corea is better pianist than Stanley Clarke is a good bassist??
.
They're all the masters of their domains
The 4 are amazing and i love Return To Forever! no best or favorite for me; the 4 combined made this great band a pleasure to listen to for decades.

Chick Corea is kind of undeniable... the rest are great, but basically Chick is God and they are his servants.

How can you not take Chick Corea.
Since 67 he have been evolving and challenging in his music!!! Clarke is a Very good Bassiste but not a composer like Chick....Dimeola too and Clark is not the same since the end of RTF in the 70'S

Out of that bunch I would say that Corea is probably the best at keys, DiMeola might be best at guitar, Clarke, well, I will give him bass and White, although it could be open to debate, might be the best drummer listed.....

Well in RTF Chick Corea had the central role, I think...
But I'd prefer Al Di Meolas overall solo output.

I saw Stanely Clarke and Al Di Meola playing their respective instruments live, but acoustic. Joined with Jean-Luc Ponty. In the Rite of Strings "Tour" I must Al Di Meola in the acoustic guitar, is quite boring though sometimes amazing, he gets stuck too much in few notes and starts noddling around, which most on the concert including me didn't enjoy, still his playing on RTF is really great, but he doesn't get me vote. Stanley Clarke, well seeing/hearing the solo he made that day, I must say he's one of the best bassiest on the entire world, not Rock since he played Acoustic Bass. It was FREAKINGLY AMAZING!! He gets my vote Chick Corea is a genius in the keyboards, but not that of fan of his. Lenny White, hmm, he's quite good, but compared to other 3 he gets quite shadowed pittily.

Another vote for Chick Corea here! As much as I love the other three, Chick was the driving force behind RTF. Al, Stanley, and Lenny may have been masters of their domains, but Chick was the master of the RTF universe.

Not to mention, before they were RTF, they toured with Stan Getz and released the album Captain Marvel. A few early RTF tunes like Captain Marvel (obviously) and 500 Miles High were originally released on this album.

Actually, Chick was around with Getz well before that album. 1967 - Sweet Rain. (getz, ron carter and chick). And before that he was playing with the likes of Mongo Santamaria and Sonny Stitt and many more as early as 1963. However he didn't really get much wider recognition until his time with Davis and Getz.

What is up with the lack of Bill Connors!? Al Di Meola always sounded like a bit of a robot to me in comparison. I'd say that Chick was the most substantial, as he did write most of the material. Stan gets second because he was just ridiculous....

Well I saw these guys live during their reunion tour, phenomenal to say the least.
But out of all of them, I think I was most impressed by Stanley Clarke- goodness can he play that bass, and with such power, dexterity and passion!
Even though Chick wrote the majority of their material, Stanley was the central force behind their sound...now and always

I can't judge this based on RTF, because they play as a unit and not as individuals, but comparing their solo output I vote for CC.

Have to agree with pretty much all of that. Though I may be biased as a keys player as well, I could easily see any bassist voting for Stanley as they probably have more appreciation for what he does than I do. And I think he's phenomenal. Same goes for Al and Lenny, though I'm not a big fan of Al's style.
