John Oliva's Pain
Word up Legion!
Update time.... Oliva is currently in Iowa to assist in programming the TSO light show... is there anything this guy can't do?? JO has completed vocal tracking on a few songs with many additional trial runs now on tape. When he returns next week, he will finalize all his lead tracks and then we head on into massive, massive back-up singing. It is once again awe-inspiring to witness pure genious and power when it come to JO's vocal tracks and his songwriting. Part of the staple JOP sound has become his ability to change characters and voices at will and to create incredibly interesting, thought provoking, passionate and down-right insane vocal melodies. Tom Morris and I have been pushing him to the edge (as JO requested), and we have met that challenge with great enthusiasm and also a bit of joy watching him suffer.... . Oliva's tenancious attitude, drive and full desire to do the best he can is only partially over-shadowed by the seemingly impossible task of singing songs that would require most of us to swallow mass consumptions of razor-blades in order to deliver what would be considered as torture to any metal music lover....We are all stoked to say the least, and proud of his commitment to giving all of you...all he has! Laporte and McDine will finish things up this week. The string sections are almost complete as well. Matt, Kevin, myself, Oliva and guest singer Todd Latorre (Crimson Glory) will dive into back up singing next week. From there it's final reviews and begin mixing in early November. We will deliver the record on-time to AFM for our 2010 release. Special thanks to Howard Helm, who has once again stepped in to lay down his amazing piano and keyboard tracks. Howard also played on Global Warning. Also appearing on this CD will be the great Casey Grillo (supreme drummer of KAMELOT and an all around great guy). I am priviledged to call him my friend and welcome his contributions to the record. Casey will be helping to fill our need for a war-time drum corp section for the song "Death Rides a Black Horse". Thank you Casey! We once again thank you for the great support and pure enthusiasm for the next CD. So far, so good....we are all very happy with our progress to date! Cheers! ..m/ Source: MS

Hi fellow Progheads,
we did it! Our 2nd album is done! Mixes had been ready for 2 weeks now, and just yesterday we finished the Mastering in our own RedTube Studios. As always, once you get to the point of Mastering, you think you..re almost through it all, but it then turns out to be quite some work to get songs that sound good individually to sound good as an album (and that is very important I think, despite what all the single-based mainstream radio junk proposes!), but we are very happy with the result now! Of course, there are still a few things to do (contacting the notary, checking with agencies and stuff), but we hope we will make the 2009 release! As to this point it is not yet clear whether we again will self-release it or not, we don..t want to give out any more information just yet. We just wanted to thank all you out there who kept us going and encouraged us in what we are doing! Thanks so much! So, you all have a proggin.. great day, stay tuned for more info! We have started writing new material. All song writers have a lot of material, that needs to be put together to form real songs.
The plan is to enter the studio during the summer of 2010, but before that we have a lot of demoing the new material, writing lyrics and generally coming up with something spectacular for our coming album. |

Another huge
Dream Theater was honoured with the "Spirit Of Prog" achievement award at the 2009 Classic Rock Awards this evening in London. The award was presented to Mike Portnoy by Prog legend Rick Wakeman who added that he couldn't have been happier for it to go to such a worthy recipient (and joked that he was jealous he wasn't getting it!) The star studded event was attended by such legends as Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, Pete Townshend of The Who, Ron Wood of The Rolling Stones, Brian May of Queen, Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Jeff Beck, Paul Rodgers of Bad Company, Iggy Pop, Slash of Guns N Roses, Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, Ginger Baker of Cream, Chrissy Hynde of The Pretenders, Carl Palmer of ELP and members of Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Anvil, Marillion, ZZ Top, Uriah Heep and Mott The Hoople. |

Riverside Metal Mind Productions proudly presents the first DVD of one of the most important progressive rock bands - Riverside!
Riverside, the band hailing from Warsaw, Poland, can best be described as a stylistic blend of atmospheric rock and metal elements, resulting in a sound similar to that of Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Dream Theater, and Tool, while still maintaining an identity of their own. Since the release of their debut album, Riverside have built a solid fan base in progressive rock genre. In May 2008, the band went on a mini-tour across Poland. The most significant date of the tour was May, 17th when Riverside played a special, over-two-hour gig in Toya Studios in Łódź. The show was treated as a summary of the “Reality Dream Trilogy” (Out Of Myself – 2003, Second Life Syndrome – 2005 & Rapid Eye Movement - 2007). Apart from the great performance of the most important songs from the band’s three big releases, the band also prepared the best lighting in their live history with a few screens that showed some special visuals. The concert in Łódź was recorded and, so far, it was available in a limited audio only edition during their “Reality Dream Tour” in December 2008. Today, the fans of Riverside have a chance to see that special performance in its full glory as it is released as a double DVD. Apart from the complete performance in Łódź, “Reality Dream” 2DVD also includes a selection of live performances in various places around the world, including Canada, Germany and Holland, plus a documentary “Behind the Curtain – A film by John Vis” and a photo gallery. The graphic design was, once again, handled by Travis Smith (painter for such bands as Opeth, Anathema, and Devin Townsend). "Reality Dream" 2 DVD will be available on 7th December 2009 in Europe (except for France - 11th January 2010) and 23rd February 2010 in USA (via MVD). --------- Riverside was founded by guitarist Piotr Grudziński, drummer Piotr Kozieradzki and vocalist/ Line-up: Piotr Grudziński (Guitar), Mariusz Duda (Vocals, Bass), Piotr Kozieradzki (Drums), Michał Łapaj (Keyboards). World Management and Nuclear Blast are extremely proud to announce the signing of Metal / Prog Gods Symphony X !!!
“As lifelong fans of the band, it is with great pride that Nuclear Blast announces the signing of US Metal / Prog Gods Symphony X!!! Symphony X exemplifies the technical sophistication of progressive metal while transcending the genre by writing amazing songs with masterful musicality and great hooks! This New Jersey-based super group effortlessly creates a balancing act between solid, accessible arrangements and song structures with highly technical, challenging instrumental work and unbelievable melodic vocal harmonies. This embrace of polyphonic lead vocals, combined with their classical-sometimes even Queen-like- choruses create a powerful, in-your-face mixture. With elements of thundering metal, rock, solos with unstoppable guitar shredding and intense keyboards - this potent group has grown with every release and is poised to compete with the commercial success of top groups in all genres! Symphony X is currently creating their next masterpiece, anticipated in the spring of 2010! Together, we will bring this talent to a new level! We hope you are ready for the ride!” “We are happy to be the part of the Nuclear Blast Family and look forward to working with them for many years to come,” says Michael Romeo. ![]() On January 25th, 2010 the time of wait is finally over! Israel’s ORPHANED LAND will finally release their highly anticipated fourth studio opus “The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR” in Europe. Mixed by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, Opeth), who is also responsible for several keyboard parts on the new album, “The Never Ending Way Of ORwarriOR” turns out to be a sophisticated concept album taking ORPHANED LAND’s unique brand of exotic, heavy music to soaring new heights in terms of complexity and catchiness. It is an audible manifest that the time has come for Middle Eastern metal to take over! Vocalist Kobi Farhi comments on the album’s concept and the striking new promo photo as follows: “As people that were born into the tragedy of our region, we have always been devoted to creating harmony between conflicts, a musical heaven on earth, a tango between God & Satan. Even in the album’s artwork we combined Hebrew and Arabic, regardless of the fight between Jews and Muslims. I found a Jordanian guy, specialized in calligraphic artwork. He took letters from Hebrew and Arabic and moulded them in his art to create a symbol of peace. Same goes for our band photo, where we portrayed a synergy between the three monotheistic religions, that believe in the same God and yet, ridiculously have been killing each other for centuries "in the name of God" and turned the holy land into an orphaned land. Naturally we continued this idea of union on a musical level as well and the result is as always crazy, it's a miracle – in our concerts: our Jewish fans sing in Arabic and our Muslim fans sing in Hebrew, brave friendships have spawned and our Middle Eastern metal music destroys all this political witchcraft we have been trapped in for so long. This is a musical journey of hope in lands of war, creating heaven on earth, building a new Jerusalem.” Israel's ORPHANED LAND is probably the only band from this country that has managed to succeed at building up a huge following among Muslims and Arabian people. These fans communicate freely via the band’s social networking pages, some of them even proudly bearing ORPHANED LAND tattoos, even though that puts them at huge risk in their home countries! The African musician Fela Kuti once said: "music is the weapon of the future" - ORPHANED LAND is the living proof of that!

As 2009 is finally winding down and no DT plans have been made public yet for 2010, I'd like to just give a quick rundown of what we have planned to prevent any rumors or speculation that I'm starting to see brew....
As you know, after Thanksgiving we will be heading down to New Zealand for the very first time and then over to Australia (with special guests Pain Of Salvation)...and then we will return home to our families for the holidays and New Year... In an unexpected move, we will then enter the studio right after New Year's to write and record a brand new instrumental track for inclusion on the upcoming Gods Of War 3 soundtrack. This will mark the first time in the band's career we have written and recorded an exclusive track for an outside project. Roadrunner invited us to participate and we decided we were up for the challenge! Next on the agenda will likely be a South American tour in the late winter / early spring...but we are still awaiting details on this, so of course plans are still subject to change... Speaking of changed plans, I'm afraid I have some disappointing news for our North American fans: after serious discussion within the band and evaluations with our manager and agent, we have deciding against doing another US run in spring as we had initially planned...for many reasons, it just is not going to work out as we had originally hoped. (and yes Texas, I still remember we owe ya next time!) Essentially, this means the BC&SL World Tour will conclude with South America (if it indeed happens) and the only remaining DT shows in 2010 will be some possible festivals and one-off shows that may (or may not) happen towards the end of the summer. So that's the 2010 forecast for DT.... |

Mind's Eye
3rd and 4th place in just plain folks awards in ....Nashville..... That's pretty cool for a bunch of no good Swedish guys.
The new album will be delayed because of Johans health issues. As soon as he gets better we will continue, please send him your thoughts. New singer will be announced and we will not continue with Lion music. Right now all my work is been put on THE MURDER OF MY SWEET and I'm having soo much fun, I can't remember having this much fun since High school. In this band we help each other in different areas and all are so devoted to the band. Not like in ME where I wrote and made on 98% of the albums... I know some of you don't like the idea of me going "commercial", please listen to the album of "The murder of my sweet" first and then make up your mind, there is soooooo much in there... I have to see where this road leads down to and I have found some amazing musicians down the road. As Johan is sick and tired of the playing bass and the business, I went out and found a really great bass player named Henrik Linder (Blowsight) he is young, hungry for success and most of all motivated,. Also, I feel really good about playing drums again (used to hate it...) Never had so much energy as I have now and hopefully I will see all Mind's ey fans on the road when The murder of my sweet starts to play more live, bring all your ME cd's and let's have a beer. Until next album then!

Therion
Hello everyone!
It has been a long time since you have heard anything new from Therion now, so I thought I should give a few updates. As you may or may not know, THERION is in progress of recording a new album. As usual, THERION is being very secretive about the entire process, but I will reveal some details: A new studio has been built for most of the recording of this album. The mix, and a few recordings, will be done at another studio - "A truly legendary studio!" according to Chris. Expect something spectacular, even by Therion's standards! The recording will continue for the rest of the year, and probably also through January. Also, a new website is still in the making. We are hacking away using the Symfony Framework. If you want to contribute, drop me a line. It is quite fun and easy. |
