March 17, 2009 will see the release of Baliset's debut album A Time For Rust. Baliset is the new project formed by Greg Massi (ex-guitarist for maudlin of the Well and Kayo Dot).

The album's production began in July of 2003 with sporadic sessions scattered over the last 5 ½ years during breaks in Greg's other musical and personal responsibilities.

The album will be released via Ret Con Records (Greg's own imprint) and will be a 6 panel digipak with artwork designed by Eliran Kantor (Testament, Aghora, Mekong Delta, To-Mera). The album will also be released on vinyl closer to the end of April/May.

The title track will be available as a download for sale through the official Baliset homepage sometime in the middle of January.

What type of music can we expect? Will it be along the lines of KD, MOTW?

Basically there will definitely be a kayo dot/motw vibe to some of the parts but overall it is more atmospheric rock songs then long compositions like my old bands.

The song structures are a bit simpler but the textures are kind of dense. I suppose it would be similar to a iron maiden meets porcupine tree meets devin townsend meets 80's era Rush.

I imagine someone might listen to it and find some different vibes there but I really love these songs and hope other people out there will dig them too. =)

Baliset... wasn't that a 7-string instrument in the Dune SF novels?  A promise of futuristic music if that's the case...
