Topic: Virus (Nor) Posted: December 06 2008 at 03:29 |
Interesting observation. I always heard hints of KC in Voivod (Virus' main influence), though they never listed them as an influence, that is until they were suddenly doing a cover of 21st Century Schizoid Man.

For a band that doesn't list them as one of their influences- they sound a lot like.... King Crimson (musically, not vocally).

I've given both albums thorough listening. I definitely like Carheart more than The Black Flux, though both are excellent. I find the guitar work much more complex on the latter. Reviews are up. Again, thanks for turning me on to these guys.

yeah, its back to the roots Thrash stuff, I had Utter Hell, it brought a smile seeing how much they sounded like Destruction, but after that it kind of wore thin

It checked it myself. It seems that itīs traditional eighties thrash metal in the vein of early Kreator and Sodom. Nothing wrong with that from my viewpoint even though itīs been done a thousand times.

I made a digital purchase of Carheart, very addictive. The Black Flux and Ved Buens Ende CD's are on their way. Thanks for the tip Moe.

i went ahead and downloaded the album. first impressions:
this album is not as catchy as Carheart.....however, with repeated listens the same magic can still be found. this is definitely much less "goofy" than its predecessor. i'm quite impressed. one of the year's finest, for sure

Love the tracks I've heard. Will be purchasing soon.
Very much Voivod influenced, at least from the Dimension Hatross to Nothingface phase. Less sci-fi themed, more "Psych-fi". Little more instrumental interplay as well.

I think I am a really cool guy, I come up with bizarre rock opera concepts and don't afraid of anything.

Business as usual for prog, then! Hmm. This reminds me that I should get working on that concept album about the earth being used as the ball in a baseball game between Galactus-like star gods requiring humanity migrating to the stars in a steampunky starship. Or if that fails, I will make one about otherworldly ducks hunting humans to boil them for tea!

I worship Virus! everything about them rules! but what more could you expect when the mastermind is none other than Carl Michael Eide (aka Czral) of such other great bands in the dark history of metal's madmen....
I also want to state that EVERY influence they list on their myspace page is worth investigating....I think Virus is a nice realization of all of those influences combined. I like my music nice and dark and Virus "takes the cake."
appreciated like a motherf**ker!

those tracks from the new album sound more like Ved Buens Ende than their first, can't wait to get "The Black Flux" should be available in the distros any day now, these guys are such masterful architects of 'the riff' such a challenge and adventure listening to each song they make,
