Topic: New Age of Earth vs. Blackouts Posted: November 20 2008 at 12:54 |
Being a huge fan of these two albums, i'm just curious about the poll's result.
A few weeks after discovering the albums, I would have easily chosen Blackouts, I wished NAoE to be more guitar-driven. But in the following time NAoE grew on me and i guess its now my favorite of both. The majestic "Nighdust" tips the scales, in my opinion it is far more superior to "Lotus" (if you just compare the epic of each album).

Haven't listened to either enough. I like several songs on blackouts and sunrain on NAoE. I'm missing shuttlecocks on BOs and the final 5 minutes of Nightdust so I have been putting off listening to the albums much until I have them in full. Like you initially, I like BO more, but cannot really say either until I've listened to them more and in full. So no vote (yet).

Two utterly magnificent albums, but my vote goes to New Age Of Earth - it's an absolute 5* masterpiece and Ocean of Tenderness is my all time favourite Manuel Gottsching/Ashra track. I love the guitar on Blackouts, especially Midnight on Mars, but overall I don't think it's as coherent an album. Inventions for Electric Guitar is another spectacular piece of work - I think it's part of the same phase in Manuel Gottsching's development.

I have both and they are delicious but there is something about "Blackouts" that just gets me , the eerie guitar interventions, New Age is alittle too polished I guess. But love em both

I'm with tszirmay,"Blackouts" is absolutely outstanding. For me it's Manual's guitar work that sets this one apart from "New Age of Earth".
