In an unusual circumstance, I bought 'Days of Future Passed' without knowing anything about this band or its music. I was extremely surpised and happy with it. So much that I got 'The Lost Chord'. I wasn't too fond of that album. Are there any other albums of theirs worth searching for or should I be content with what I have?

The orchestration bits really hit it home for me on 'Days...'

They are mostly more in the vein of The Lost Chord than Days of Future Passed. Although, Om is an amazing song.

My personal favorite is To Our Children's Children's Children.

I was about to say the same thing.  I'm not a huge fan even though I have all their early stuff.  I always found the orchestrations on Days a little quaint.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

If the main reason for your pleasure is the orchestration, then you've got their best in that regard. Try one of their greatest hits packages if the prog/pop material rings your chimes.

I like Every Good Boy Deserves Favor and On the Threshold of a Dream.  Both are very very good.

The same for me.....the 2 i listen to the most!!! Question of balance is good too!
 
About orchestrations, yes Day of Future Passed stands on its own,,,after that, the mellotron is king!Thumbs Up

Threshold of a Dream.  Thumbs Up but then again i LOVE  all the  Classic Moody Blues

I like them all...though for me Days is at the bottom of the list.  And for no reason whatsoever...Nights in White Satin, Tuesday Afternoon, Twilight Time...all '60s classics.  I just don't like the orchestra...gimme the damn Mellotron.

I would have to say that their most mind-blowingly prog album is On the Threshold of a Dream. My favourite is Days, but I think Threshold is a better example of the intrinsic characteristics of the Moodies.

I got it from the library, and at the time I thought the orchestrations were cool (I was new to prog, I don't know what I'd think now), which set me up for a big disappointment in what "Symphonic Prog" actually meant. Anyway, I always laughed at the monologue at the beginning "And WE decide which is true, and which is illusion." That's deep, main.

I still like Days and frankly would prefer to hear it instead of your typical Christmas music.  The quaint orchestral parts I refer to seem a little Christmassy to me.  And hey, the parts that are good are great.

I might add that if you like Days of Future Passed, you might enjoy Miles Davis - Sketches of Spain.

The first seven albums are all worth getting in my opinion. I think the best is 'To our childrens, childrens, children'

I agree about the first 7.  Although I don't care for "On the Threshold" much, and don't fine "Days of Future Passed" has enough oomph, each of the 7 could be considered their best depending on your tastes.  My favourite is probably "A Question of Balance".
