Topic: Primus vs. Rush Posted: November 21 2008 at 09:16 |
Lately, Rush has had to do battle with some progressive rock heavyweights. Now it's time to see how they would do against a heavyweight in the world of modern rock weirdness.
So... Do you prefer the facetious tales from the proverbial punchbowl, or do you prefer the uber-literate stories caressed by steel? Do like to set sail on the seas of cheese, or would you rather move pictures? Les or Geddy? Ler or Alex? Herb, Brain or Neil? You decide.

I guess this is like Rush Vs. Zep, but now the influences are the other way around Rush. Primus is fun, but Rush is easier to listen to for me

These Rush polls are starting to get a bit out of hand.

You can say that again... or you could just wait 15 minutes for someone else to make another Rush poll

These polls are going to make Alex, Geddy, and Neal suddenly disappear without a trace.

Interesting the original post mentions Tales from the Punchbowl which was the death of Primus to me. You couldn't turn on the radio for months w/o hearing that stupid Winona song, and now the majority of the public says "Oh, that band with the beaver song..." when you mention Primus. It also pains and shocks me that the horrid album that "winona" comes from ranks 2nd on PA, while the brilliant and arguably most progressive of their albums,"Pork Soda" is rated below 3.
If you were putting the first 3 Primus studio albums up against the last 10 from Rush, then Primus wins. If its Rush's first 8 vs Primus' last 3, then Rush destroys them.
If you ask Les Claypool, I'm sure he gives the nod to Rush every time.
And why aren't there any Rush vs. Dream Theater polls up. That would be a fanboy bloodbath for the ages.
Edit: Found one from 2006, relatively tame despite the absolute drubbing by Rush 63-30.

I prefer Primus; I like the absurdity. I used to feel that Rush too often took themselves too seriously, or commonly were too serious in terms of lyrical content.

I can understand your irritation with Winona on the radio even though I never listen to radio, even when I have the choice, for a long time now. The video really cracks me up though. But finally a poll with two bands that share parity: two male vocalists that have a weird style.

I have to vote for Rush but both are great bands with awesome musicianship.
If it was a poll about their videos -Primus would slay Rush!

Ohhhh, I like this poll. For once I'll vote against Rush in this poll. I enjoy Primus' weirdness quite a lot actually
