Germany had their share of essential bands in the late 60's -early 70's.
Which gem shines the brightest for you? I notice it's very hard to sometimes separate certain electronic & cosmic bands from this genre, so thats the only reason i left out Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, & Kraftwerk. Any particular albums or songs to cite would be interesting. Personally,The Debut Album of Faust is my choice. ...The people who stated that warning on Faust's main biography here @ PA about not giving it to a mentally fragile person was not lying, especially when she's lying in bed putting her headphones on wondering why her boyfriend listens to a genre of music she's never heard on the radio. |

Has to be Amon Duul II for me, many quality albums from them whereas I have had major issues trying to listen through Neu!, Can, and Ash Ra albums. Less familiar with Popol Vuh and Faust. Side note: wish there were more bands like 2066 & THEN.

All superb bands, but it's got to be Faust, the furthest out and craziest of the lot.

I voted for Faust, but really like all of these. Faust's debut is quite extraordinary, and it is good to see Nurse With Wound kind of get added to the archives for their collaboration with Faust:

these are just the tip of the iceberg, or rather, not even that. Guru Guru, Kraan or Embryo definitely have to be mentioned too when it comes to Kraut, simply because they still exist and were first hour veterans, Kraan a little later than Embryo and Guru Guru; their first album is from 1972

The third best Can album is better than any album by any of the other bands, so Can by a ridiculously large margin.
Faust and NEU! are both great, though, and the rest are good. Can>Faust>NEU!>Amon Duul II>Ash Ra Tempel>Popol Vuh |
