I want to take "Silent Night", put it in 17/4, add electric violins and slide guitars and play it backwards.

I want to rape it and make it prog Angry

Thanks to one of the contributors above I bought the Tori Amos disc 'Midwinter Graces'.
A very nice listen, thanks for that.

Also, you might like to listen to Vienna Circle christmas song on their myspace page and last.fm

Nice to hear a Christmas song with gilmouresque guitar.

Keith Emerson's Christmas album ain't bad, although even he stoops to using a kiddies choir on one of the tracks. One of the best Christmas(y) songs of all time was Chris Squire's Run With the Fox, which died on it's arse unfortunately. I would however walk over red hot coals to hear Peter Hamill tackle something like Silent Night or Ding Dong Merrily on High (perhaps Jon Anderson might be a better bet for the latter ?)

I say you haven't heard proggy Christmas rock until you've heard Bob Dylan sing Hark the Herald Angels Sing or O Little Town of Bethlehem.

Can you tell me where we're headin'?
Lincoln County Road or Armageddon.

Well... Trans-Siberian Orchestra is apparently 'prog' and they revolve almost wholly around christmas..

Cool thread, if there's going to be Christmas music on, best be prog.  She's not officially prog here, but I've just given this a spin:

If you want to have something unconventional on hand, it's really good.

Of course nothing can ever top this:

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

1225 by a Christian Rock band called Ten Point Ten is a progressive rock Xmas album that I can heartily recommend.

Is there an actual prog christmas album, or is it just a christmas album done by prog rockers?

My opinion is that all christmas albums are not prog....what would be the reason for them to be???

I vote that you put my progressive rock Christmas song, "Christmastime is Now," on the album. In fact, I think a progressive rock Christmas album for next year would be great if we got a bunch of newer artists to record original songs for it. I would like to hear Christmas songs by Dr. Zoltan Obelisk and Phideaux.

Listen to Johnny Unicorn's "Christmastime is Now!"

Thanks,

Great, now I have to spend the rest of the day trying to clean the stains of partially digested eggnog from my shirt.  Dead

Not much prog though, plus it contains the horrifying Run With the Fox.
