Well its that time of year again when you can't go anywhere without hearing christmas music. I was thinking about making a prog christmas album but so far have only stumbled upon some Tull, ELP, and Mike oldfield  Christmas songs. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Another thought: Ringo Starr's Pax Um Biscum (Peace Be With You) is a sitar-based song that would not go astray on a proggy Xmas compilation.

The only suggestions I have are really on the fringes of prog, but still a good alternative to the standard fare:
Sarah McLachlan - Wintersong
Vince Guaraldi - A Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack
Kitaro - Peace On Earth

and the not prog at all:
South Park - Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I always listen to Mannheim Steamroller (mainly Fresh Aire series though) and the Jethro Tull Christmas Album when I want Christmas music.

Other than that, there are albums I hear more so in the winter, but not necessarily appropriate for Christmas (Tangerine Dream, etc.)

Al DiMeola has a Christmas album. I'm not sure how Prog it is, but he did make Elegant Gypsy, so who knows?

There's Greg Lake "hit" single of course... that usually gets a perenial dusting of snow.
And the album that gave birth to the TSO, Savatage's Dead Winter Dead is set on Christmas Eve...

Which reminds me that Neal Morse has also released a fan club Christmas album.  I guess he has been writing 1 Christmas song per year for a number of years and he decided to release them all as an album.

There`s a rather obscure German acid band I wrote the bio for here on PA called Dies Irae who only released one album in 1971. If you go to their section and click on their official website ( which is really their myspace ) and you`ll find a sample of several of their tracks played live during a reunion in `95. You`ll hear the most tripped out  version of Silent Night Holy Night ever played. Go here. blow your Christmas mind. The only Christmas song with explosions and ant-aircraft fire.

Sorry it's not a Christmas album...
 
A few weeks ago I got the Moon Safari's album Blomljud and enjoyed again and again.
Then my wife said, "Is it a Christmas song?"
Wooo...she felt the beautiful chorus like as Christmas songs, I guess.
 
I think certainly the brilliant songs will serve my family well on our Christmas. Heart
