Before I go to a poll I would like to ascertain what kind of general support I would get to champion the cause of Stratovarius being included on Progarchives. For goodness sakes - Deep Purple are here.
Are their any Stratovarius supporters out there and what are your thoughts. How many of those who were originally negative about their inclusion have actually listened to the Band? Judging by the non - inclusion - not many, I would think. What do you guys think?

I would actually support their suggestion as Prog-Related. However, in that case their inclusion would be decided by the admin team ... so there is not much point in making polls or gathering opinions. You're free to do so, but it has been done before and did not result in their inclusion, so it might be a waste of time.

Even if I haven't heard Stratovarius, I'm sure they never did something as Prog as Child in Time or Fools or Concerto for Group and Orchestra or their MK 1 albums.

As you already know by hard, it's useless to suggest a band with saying "if x is here, then y is surely" or  "x is here? and not y?"

Hi cacho - you wanna bet?? I love "Child in time" and the whole Deep Purple rock thing but Strat leave that side of Purple cold. Listen to Stratovarius - do me a favor - maybe you will still disagree but maybe Strat will have another fan!!

I'm not a collaborator of this website anymore ... and like I said, even if I was then the decision would still be up to the admin team. I run my own little website now ... if you are so sure that Stratovarius are prog, you're welcome to create an account there and tag them as such.Smile

Check Concerto for Group and Orchestra. I bet Strat can't beat that on Prog means. I can't imagine a Power Metal band leaving cold a pioneering Hard Rock/Metal band. And much less if it's my fave bandWink

Before coming out with a quote like that, you need to check the genre that Deep Purple are in, then look up it's description.

Hey, I know a great deal about Deep Purple - There is no way that they are prog except possibly for "Child in Time". They are purely a rock band and a very good one at that. They branched off into perhaps Prog bands - Rainbow, The Ian Gillian Band, Blacmore's Night - etc. The Concerto was more John Lord's work than Deep Purple's as a whole.
I rate Deep Purple as perhaps the greatest Rock band of all time but prog???? No  - sorry!!!!
Dream Theater's greatest influence was Deep Purple no matter what they or anyone else says. Dream Theater are a Deep Purple or Rainbow taken to a different extreme.

^ Hey man! NOBODY SAID DEEP PURPLE WERE/ARE PROG!!! Check the site where they are! They're PROTO-Prog, they're not Prog, they influenced future Prog bands with the MK 1.
Please check well before adding Deep Purple as a excuse.

As cacho and I just said, Deep Purple are not here as a fully-fledged prog band, so that has no bearing whatsoever on whether Stratovarius are accepted or not. Read the description of proto-prog.
