I liked Alaska when it came out...thought it was a nice fusion between two genres that weren't getting much done in recent years. As soon as I heard 'Colors' I was completely blown away.

Whatever weird sub-genre they are thrown in they'd be right at the top.

'White Walls' is one of the best metal songs ever written.

Wow...I've got Colors and it's such an amazing album. I saw them live opening for Dream Theater and they stole the entire show IMO. Can't wait for a new album from these guys.Big smile

Colors pretty much destroyed my face when I first heard it.
I have been unable to go more than a week without putting it in my CD player since I bought it.
It was the most perfect release in metal for 2007 IMO:metal:
10/10 for me, easily.

LOLWell at first I didn't liked it one bit. It wasn't until a few weeks that I just fell in love with these guys. Ants Of The Sky is so mind blowing.Heart I think I might get their Colors Live album. Heard pretty good things about.

Ohhh man, I actually liked the album straight away, but at first it wasn't 10/10, because it had not sunk in yet.
After listening to it a few times, I knew I was in love with it.
I remember when I used to listen to White Wall on repeat.
When a band writes a song over 14 minutes long that I can put on repeat, you know they have done something amazing:)

It's true. Ohh well I think I'm gonna listen to it tonight. It's been quite a while since I've listened to it.

My first listen was Colors. At first I didn't like it tons, now, it's one of two albums that I can't go 2 days without listening too. When I first started too like colors, I also liked Alaska, but not Silent Circus or Self-titled. 2-3 months later, I love everything. I just recently got Colors Live, and can honestly say it is one of the best music DVD's disregard that, DVD's I have.

One of my favorite bands for sure. Big smile

Oh, and did I mention they're flawless live?

Colors may well be one of the best and most innovative prog metal albums ever created. Foam Born, Ants Of The Sky and PTTS are the highest played songs on my iTunes at the moment, the band just has so much to offer.

Oh man, I can't use words to describe how awesome this band is! When I first heard the band, I couldn't get over how good "Mordecai" was. Then Alaska came out, and me and my first thought it couldn't possibly get better than "Selkies." And then they dropped Colors...and my life will never be the same.

To whom it applies, let's write some five-star reviews for Colors. The album's current score is entirely unfitting!

yes it is good.....but did not quite match the brilliance of Martyr's "feeding the abscess".....

otherwise, yes BTBAM rules something fierce!

if by "mess" you mean that it constantly changes styles and time sigs and does not follow a predictable course, than YES, it is a beautiful mess!

Precisely, there is almost no melody which makes it very hard to swallow, in an avant garde sense... kinda like Behold the Arctopus with vocals.

? There are melodies everywhere. Except for the bulk of "The Decade of Statues" and "Informal Gluttony," the tracks on Colors are rife with melodies, or maybe I have a more broad definition of melody. Certainly there is a lot going on at any given time, but it's all distinguishable and memorable.

I also find it interesting that you have a Gojira avatar and are saying that this is "a terrible mess," with no melody, that took you a while to build some tolerance. To me Gojira is way more difficult to swallow. They're heavier, and for longer periods of time, with way less melody and less to connect to emotionally.
