Topic: Ian Gillan Band Posted: December 08 2008 at 15:38 |
I am actually a bit suprised that Ian Gillan Band is not here already. I mean Deep Purple, Rainbow and Blackmore's Night are far less progressive than Gillan's jazz rock project wih albums like Clear Air Turbulence.
Personally, I would want to put them in Jazz-Rock/Fusion because of their first couple of albums, but maybe Prog Related is more appropriate considering the later albums?
What do you think?

It has, and I believe IGB were approved for addition. If this is true, I'd be happy to add them myself.. I have Clear Air Turbulence, which is a great album.

BTW If or when they are added does this mean that only the albums Child In Time, Clear Air Turbulence, Scarabus and Live At Budokan will be added to the discography or will it be possible to add the albums that were released under the Gillan name as well? Or is that regarded as a separate band completely?

No, the general consensus was to add ONLY the albums credited to the Ian Gillan Band, and not those credited to Gillan, which are basically hard rock (though very good, and with prog undertones). That means that if someone adds any Gillan albums, they will have to be removed.

BTW when you say approved for addition. It is to Jezz-Rock/Fusion or Prog Related?

They were approved by the JR/F team - I found the thread in the Collab Zone, and posted (you can have a look at it too).

I was lucky enough to see IGB on more than 20 occasions mainly at the Marquee Wardour Street..the only difference I can remember the use of two different guitarists apart from that the basis of the band remained the same. Not bad for a 62 year old Definitely a prog bad but not sure what type.Street fighting man still remains a classic.

I confirm... 'Child In Time' have a Japanese music style intro. For me this album is better of 'Made In Japan'!!!

The IGB have just been added to Jazz-Rock/Fusion... I've also added their first album, but probably won't have a lot of time to add the others, so anyone who feels like doing it is more than welcome .

Cheers Raff. I fixed the band pic 'cos it looked terribly. It's much better now.
