Topic: Artists/bands like Chroma Key ? Posted: December 14 2008 at 15:28 |
Kevin Moore's Chroma Key albums are by far my favourite set of recordings. I'm wondering if you guys can recommend me some stuff that maybe sounds similar. I guess that half-asleep smart pop music approach if I had to put it into words.

If you like them then check out Kevin Moore's OSI, they're a little bit harder on the approach, but they're still worth getting if you're into Chroma Key. They have the trademark Moore sound!

I'm a huge Chroma Key fan and have been looking for something akin a long time. Have really had very little luck. In their more downbeat tracks Royskopp gives me a fix. They really miss sublime dreaminess by Moore's textures and voice but I think you would enjoy them.
Some people tend to recommend No-Man and Pineapple Thief. Although I can see why they're not really similar and probably not what you're looking for but you could give it a shot if you get desperate.

I'm a huge fan of both Chroma Key and OSI, and I'm always on the lookout for similar sounds. I think the major thing that appeals to me about these bands is the multi-layered production and heavily synthesized sound, and the focus on feel and groove in the song structures.
On that basis, here are a few bands that I think have some elements in common that may appeal: - Frost - Man On Fire - Event - Sieges Even (last two albums only) - Pure Reason Revolution - Porcupine Tree
None of them really sound like Chroma Key, but I like them all for similar reasons.

I am a huge fan of the two albums by Chroma Key! I now what kind of sound you are looking for, you should check out Boards of Canada - High Scores. The album is not really progressive but on the sound of Ulrich Schnauss, Klaus Schulze. If you really like ambient check out A Produce, Global Communication, and Craig Armstrong.
