Hmm, well almost all these songs are songs I've heard....so potentially by top 100 they mean top 100 popular songs, at the same time, all these songs do rock a lot...even The Final Countdown, which is cheesy as hell but a fun song. Only differences I would make would be: Rock and Roll all nite by kiss....that song is horrible, move it to like number 102. And definately change enter sandman to something off master of puppets.

But yay GNR number 1, i'm cool with that.

It is a pretty decent list, although my list would probably be quite different since it would have a lot more Rush in it. LOL My first question is Blitzkrieg Bop from the Ramones.  I'm not familiar with that song but does punk rock = hard rock?  Joan Jett - Bad Reputation at 29.  I would think that I Love Rock and Roll would be her top song?  Although, I'm not sure that that would qualify as hard rock or not.  What is Madhouse from Anthrax?  I'd think something like I Am The Law or I'm the Man.

I guess that heavy metal and punk rock are both grouped in as part of hard rock for these purposes.

this is VH1 we're talking about, they had The Final Countdown on there for god's sake.  I believe they themselves named that the Worst Metal Song of all time, so what is it VH1? Terrible metal (correct answer) or great hard rock?  They did have a Greatest Artists of Hard Rock list a few years back that was tolerable, for the most part.

Very lame.  I mean, it's an okay list, but we could pick equivalent or better tracks from each band represented.

smoke on the water #11....that is THE rock riff like of ALL time...   at least Classic Rock magazine isn't the only media outlet sucking off 'GnR'.

That's nice, VH1 is one of those channels I mostly just surf through.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

The list does illustrate how terrible a label such as "hard rock" is. It does not really tell you much about the song other that it has some heavy guitar (and even that isn't always the case like in More than a Feeling). The list comprises classic blues rock, hair metal, grunge, metal (itself a vague term but I'm not familiar enough with the listed bands outside Metallica and Megadeth), and punk (also a vague term). Oh well.

I need to listen to it at least two more times, but its an okay album, despite being poor by GNR and most hard rock standards. I guess the most accurate description would be to call it an Axl Rose solo album. It's very industrial sounding. For 15 years of work though, what else can you expect? After all that time, you wouldnt be able to see the music clearly to know whether its good or not.

I stopped watching when after I saw Andrew W.K. placed a spot higher than Aqualung.

People still watch Vh1, MTV and MuchMusic?? I thought those channels were reserved for sh*tty reality shows based on burnt out rockstars and slut-machines.

I agree. In fact, I'll collect some I think shouldn't qualify and list them here:
98. Buckcherry - Lit Up (I haven't heard this song, but the stuff I've heard by Buckcherry was rather wishy-washy)
95. Creed - Higher (Lol)
86. Marilyn Manson - The Beautiful People (Tee hee)
83. Evanescence - Bring Me to Life (Dear God, no!)
56. Warrant - Cherry Pie (Ew)
*48. Korn - Freak on a Leash
*47. Kid Rock - Bawitdaba (These two Clowns above Blue Oyster Cult, GFR, and the Kinks?)
41. Quiet Riot - Cum on Feel the Noize (This wasn't even an original song. Why isn't The Slade original on here?)
16. Rock and Roll All Nite – Kiss (Meh...)
7. Smells Like Teen Spirit – Nirvana (Way too high. Not even Nirvana's best song)

Promotion so blatant that it's sad:

I wouldn't have considered all of those bands as hard rock, Confused but even if I did I wouldn't be able to take any list seriously that puts Blue Öyster Cult only 55th.Tongue

Why are the White Stripes on this list at all. A better question is, why so low?

And I don't think they could have picked a worse song for #1. Really, that thing is atrocious.
