I could make this a very long story, but all I did was ask John Czajkowski if there was going to be a new Hectic Watermelon album out. Here's what he replied, and a careful reader will note that this may mean 4 albums to come out this year - albeit not all under the Hectic Watermelon name (bolds are mine):

Hi Angelo,

Yes, I'm now working on material for HWM number two! I just finished a very demanding album with drummer Marco Minnemann called West ZooOpolis that we hope to release this Spring. It is part of a larger project called Normalizer involving Trey Gunn, Mike Keneally and Alex Machacek. We are all writing a complete album around this insane 51-minute drum solo he did. It hurts my brain thinking about it, but I am extremely pleased with my version now that it's done. I have been helping Mike record his too - which is fantastically wacky! :)

best,

John

I just can't wait...

This Normalizer thing sounds even more interesting. Cool

But good news. Look forward to this new watermelon.

I have a feeling this will be as good or better than The Great American Road Trip.

Definitely. If you like good modern jazz rock - give them a try Brian.

Wow. Anything with John Czajkowski and Marco Minnemann is a must have for me. Normalizer is already amazing. I can't wait to hear what those other players have put to it. We already know Alex Machacek can play over ANY drum part, just listen to what he did with Bozzio's solo on [sic]. I'm very curious to hear what JC will do.

Well, it's way past 2009 now, but the album is finally there:

Update: thanks to a special arrangement with Abstract Logix, pre-order customers will not have to wait to hear this new album with Marco Minnemann! You will be sent a link to download the full album if you send the following information to [email protected]:

1. Order date.
2. Email address you used for order
3. Email address to receive download link if different from number 2 above.

Once this is confirmed by a human, your link will be sent. This shouldn't take more than 24 hours at the very most. Thanks again for letting Marco and I share this with you. Also, I am thrrilled to learn that this album has already become one of the top sellers at Abstract Logix in two days of pre-sales.

thank you,

John Czajkowski

Question...

I have also found Modulator from Trey Gunn and 24 Tales from AM...is it the same drum solo just interpretted differently by four different guys seperately??

If so that is a bold project.
