How could you say such a thing ????
I meant Tom as in Roland113, not you Tom Ozric!!  He has a bit of a dislike for mellotron in modern musicWink.
Oh, I wasn't aware he is Tom too

Hi there.  Smile

Amusingly enough, I knew Roj was talking about me as the Mellotron debate comes up every once in a while, so I didn't even consider you as 'Tom' despite the obvious handle staring at me.  Embarrassed

Well it seems that the founding fathers here are bigger fans of The Chicken farmer song than you sorry sods...   Thumbs Up

And
I do have big plans to get all you Pilgrims into 5.1.

It may have something to do with the above two points and they fact i gave a certain somebody some cash & cocaine in a small paper bag. Beer

Did I scare away barney again??? LOL

Seriously, sorry I've been away.  I really have nothing to say these days about 2.0 music.  So much new 5.1 remixes out there.  I've been "surrounded" by surround sound, no lie.

Oh pfft, just when the vynal versus digital debate seemed to have gotten quiet, we've added the 5.1 into the mix.

Ok, so I get it, (I think).

2.0 refers to stereo speakers or two speakers.

5.1 refers to five speakers, 4 surround soun and a subwoofer.  Where does the .1 come from.

And seriously, you're going to be waiting a long time for new artists to have the cash resources to do 5.1.  There just isn't enough of a demand.  Seriously, if every Flower King fan bought a 5.1 remix of The Chicken Farmer, while yes, that would be a great thing, but there's a pretty good chance Mr. Stolt would still lose money on the enterprise.

Nobody scares me off...I reckon that ISIS are going to try and take over my back garden and declare it an Islamic State! However I've decided that once they've sampled a couple of my special bacon sarnies - they will soon see the light.....And all happily let me use their Korans to get me next barby on the go for a serious bit of beer supping!!

Well, I know that early FK stuff will soon be re-released on vinyl, so I don't think 5.1 is in the picture for Roine.

Tom, the .1 is the subwoofer.  Surround uses a front left and right, a center channel, two surround channels and a subwoofer.  We still haven't set up my girlfriends surround sound system, but it's only been 4 1/2 years, so give us some time Wink  Actually, we are very actively looking to move to a bigger place (townhouse is already sold), so that will be one of the first things I do when we move.  Then I'll need some 5.1 mixes.........I guess I have a couple, PTree and the last Steven Wilson solo album.

That's the Barney i know & love!
L.O. me ole China!  How the phook are you in bloody ole England these days???

@Roland: I think 5.1 has passed a point of critical mass.  Not sure TFK will ever go 5.1 but everybody else seems to(as far as prog)  I have Steven Wilson's Raven in 5.1 and Drive Home is beyond belief.

@infandus:  congrats on selling your condo!  When you set up your surround you will not be let down, I assure you!

@ZumaBaby: You nailed it:  Neal Morse's lyrics are very naive.  That is the best way to put it and it says it all.

Neal released the first song on his upcoming solo album.  I guess it's a singer/songwriter deal.  Song is as you'd think.

I've thought about surround sound.  Would be fun I'm sure.  The whole vinyl craze is really interesting.   Not sure it really sounds better.  However, some TFK artwork album-size would be cool.  UTF comes to mind.

So I just read a Jon Anderson interview.  It seems he and Roine have some epics in the works!  Could be interesting.......

JA: "Yes. I said to the guy, “Work on these pieces. There’s a 20-minute, 15-minute, 10-minute works that I had,” and he came up with a flourish of music for these pieces. He really upgraded them and evolved them. So I said, “OK, now I have some really serious stuff.” (Laughs.) So he’s excited because he’s got two, three months off now, and I’m gonna send him some stuff that could be pretty wild. It’s really jumping into that progression of music. Not so much a “prog-rock” album but a progression of music. And it’s just one of those things. You think, “Wow, I’m glad I held onto that dream from 10 years ago about installations."

that's obviously the high profile studio project roine is working on.  sounds interesting.  not to mention anderson's new band with ponty.  wonder if that fits in any where.

@Dennis, i do need to look into surround sound.  not really sure what's stopping me.  i know you said once that it's fairly affordable.

peace!

Well, over on the Yahoo group Roine asked us to keep this quiet.  I guess Jon wasn't supposed to talk about it, since it's still in the early stages.  Anyway, hopefully something good will result!

Oh dear, this could mean anything, hopefully more solid than YES' latest effort...

@Zuma: Yes, I know you have the apartment Moo goin on , but you could fit a nice medium system in no prob.
When you do, eventually, you will kick yourself for MONTHS that you didn't do it sooner.  It really is that much of a game changer.

I love Mask Machine, it really gets into your head. And yes, there is a suite on the album, in fact both the first and last songs are 12 minutes long so there's likely to be a bigger prog influence than their first album (which I also loved).
