I'm just going to rank the main disc. I don't feel I've listened to the bonus disc enough.

Numbers
For The Love of Gold
For Those About To Drown
Rising The Imperial
Pandemonium

I'm not into ranking songs as I think album as a whole is very strong. I would listen to the bonus disc. I find that the more I listen to Banks of Eden the more and more I like it, however, it didn't make much of an impression on me the first time I listened to it. It's definitely an album that will grow on you.

Well, Numbers is easily the highlight.  It's a fantastic epic and one of their best ever pieces imho.  Contrary to you, Pandemonium is my second favourite, then FTATD then the other two.

This is a cracking album and with the shorter running time and lack of quirky pieces and shorter instrumental pieces (a part of the band that I personally love, especially from their earlier days) I'm not surprised it's proving a hit amongst the prog audience.

As to the bonus disc I've not heard it as much as the main disc, but plenty enough times to judge.  From the bonus disc I like Illuminati and Lolines best.  However I have to say they made a wise decision leaving those as a bonus disc as none of them as ggod as any of the songs on the main album.

was looking at TFK facebook or website and noticed that the vinyl is labelled Shores of Eden....?  kind of cool.

i do like the shortness of this album.  it's not so daunting an undertaking.  Numbers is so great because it is subtle.  it's fairly easy to listen to but also infectious.  so great.

Numbers has grown on me and is probably the best track by a smidgin but all the rest are equally as good as each other........Very consistent...

Yes, I noticed the consistency of Banks of Eden as well. There's really no weak links here. My only complaint about is I think it's too short, but this is just me nitpicking.

Aye The 2nd track should have been pushed out to 18 or so mins......
The synth motif should have been used as the central theme of an extended intrumental break in the middle....

They could have, but I guess the songs just wouldn't be the same. When I was talking about length, I was talking about the total time of the album. It seemed pretty short by FK standards. The whole idea behind most of the songs was for them to be condensed, which to me proves that Stolt could do it with no problems. He could write a 40 second song and it would sound better than almost anything that's out there today.

As much as I love sitting through Unfold The Future's 2 1/2 hour length, I love being left wanting more, such as from Banks of Eden.

I'm thinking that For The Love Of Gold might be the best song overall. Numbers is the big epic, so it has more going for it, but FTLOG is such a fun song. Great vocal harmonies too.

I'm going to try and listen to The Flower Kings' single releases first and then work my way to their double albums. I don't want to bite off more than I can chew. I'm going to analyze and study every album like I have done with all of my favorite prog bands. I'm going to listen to every nook and cranny of sound because I have highly enjoyed this band and they've become a recent favorite.

After I got Space Revolver and The Sum of No Evil, both single disc albums, I went through all 4 double albums before moving onto the rest of the discography, and it worked out for me. When I started posting in this thread, everyone was talking up their doubles, especially Unfold the Future and Stardust We are, as albums to get next, based on what I already had.

The thing with their double albums is, they contain some of the band's best work, and many classic TFK epics are on them. Everyone's tastes are different, but if you're going to do single albums first, I suggest skipping The Rainmaker and Adam & Eve, save those 2 albums for last; as they are seen as the band's two "weakest" albums, and get into the doubles after you hear the other single disc albums.

I enjoy it very much. It's not a TFK album I throw on often when I want my TFK fix, but when it's on, it's highly enjoyable. It's a little darker than the usual TFK album, IMO, kinda dreamy, and very eclectic. It's my least favorite of the double albums, though.

I think that consistent is the key word here. This is a classic Flower Kings  album.

Listening to the bonus disc of BoE again. The opening track is cool, very Pink Floyd-ish. The 2 middle poppy tracks are alright, but still nothing to write home about. The last song LoLines is the best song on the bonus disc, nice hard rockin' song, and good verses. I'm very happy these were kept off the main album, as I feel it would have brought the overall flow down a lot, though LoLines might have worked in context, maybe after Pandemonium.

"Going Up" is probably the best pop-prog song TFK have ever done. It's hard not to be happy while listening to that track. I would actually like to see them explore that territory more. Although I'm probably in the minority.

I like Going Up too. Catchy chorus. I like all the songs on the bonus disc, it's just that I can understand why they were kept off the main album.

As you've probably noticed everyone has their own favorite Flower Kings CD.  Paradox Hotel is my favorite as there are some fantastic songs on there.  I would say that its more of a rocker than their other works which is part of the appeal.  "Life Will Kill You" is a killer tune and the title track rocks as well.  "Touch My Heaven" has one of my favorite Roine solos on it and "End on a High Note" and "Minor Giant Steps" are both proggy and among my favorite songs from the band.
