Nearfest really bowled me overHeart... I'd been to other rock festivals in the past, but never to a completely prog one, and this one was really something special. Everything was perfect - the town, the venue, the people, the organisation, and, of course, the music.

I'd like to write a more complete review in the next few days, but for the time being I'll just say that last night, if I had had an Italian flag, I'd have started waving it all over the place - and I'm the least patriotic person in the world. PFM were beyond magnificent, and the other Italians, jazz-rockers DFA, were a revelation to me. I got to meet them personally yesterday afternoon, and they were elated to meet a fellow Italian here in the US - and someone who showered them with praise to boot. Those two bands showed the people who where there that there is more to Italy than that pathetic buffoon Berlusconi and his minions - they represent the best part of the country where I was born.

yepper...I got one of the CD's from the band and listened to it earlier.  Great stuff indeed.

We are going to see  them Wednesday in DC (not sure if blue jeans and a flannel shirt will be allowed at the Kennedy Center ...but I am going  to find out haha)

checking it out...  it was funny... the guys sitting next to me were also at Beardfish's 2006 show.  We all thought that show was heads above their set yesterday.

I must say though... I really like the new material from their upcoming album.

nice review...  though this year everyone got an ovation/encore.  Even Steve Hillage's train wreck of a show hahah.

I did hear some comments while being a bad boy outside after the set that many thought Hansen was a bit..err.. much hahhaha.  Our dear collab David did a nice demonstration of shooting skeet to illustrate what some felt of his exagerated movements.

btw... Beardfish pulled out of supporting DT.. along with Pain of Salvation.  Financial problems.

Anyone remember what PFM played? Smile

I wish I'd been there, but it's not exactly on my bus route... We need a similar festival here, but I doubt we have enough audience.

PFM did a marvelous job.  Lots of instrumentals with short movies that were rather interesting.

And to Micky... Gary Green came out with Jim just before PFM and annouced that Three Friends would be playing Nearfest next year.  And he wasn't really there scoping it out... he's attended the last 5 or so Nearfests.

ahhh.. thanks Linda...  I was probably flapping my gums with some guys sitting next to me and missed that.  I know I wasn't passed out at that point LOL

Had a great time... and looking forward to next year.... we WILL have a special PA's vistor.  Even if we have to kidnap him and run him across the border in the trunk hahha.

yeah....  that does suck.  I wonder if that explains why Beardfish  just didn't seem to have 'it' like they have it before.  Haven't put my finger on what was missing... but sure what was going on was probably weighing on their minds.   Would have been a major exposure for them.  Bad break indeed.

Sounds like a great fest and everyone had a great time. Wish I could have been there but out of state trips are pretty much null and void right now.

Looks like the only two shows I am seeing this year (so far anyway) will be this one:

and this one:

I hope they turn out to be good.  Missed Jeff Beck due to Amber and Keith Emerson canceled so this it.

EDIT:

Wiat a minute I just saw The Chantays and The Zombies a couple weeks ago does that count? LOL

I don't know about the Chantays, Brian... that probably doesn't count!  :D

Jon and I are thinking of doing Prog Day in NC this year.  My favorite French band are playing (Morglbl) and they've got a band I've been waiting 10 years or so to see live - French TV.  Thats worth a drive down.

Will also be taking our annual vacation around the Porcupine Tree tour this year as usual.  Hoping to do NYC, PHilly, Boston and that date that may be added in the DC area.

Well, on their website there isn't yet any info on a date in the DC area... If they play here, though, we'll be sure to go. Neither of us are big fans of the band (Micky loves their earlier output though), but I'd really love to see them live.
