that would be something to do with the persistence of vision - try looking at it through squinted eyes.

I find this strangely calming to watch. Wacko

It automatically goes off when you shut the door after climbing into the refrigerator.  Look out for copius ants.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I still haven't fathomed the trick that this thing is playing me. When I entered this thread for the first time,I could swear that this woman spinned just counter-clockwise, but after I voted I saw her spinning clockwise more often. Splitting up the animation didn't give me a clue either: the loose images are definitely arranged in a clockwise order and the interval between the images is always 30 milliseconds, so the woman should perform one full circle in nearly one second.

Maybe it's a combination of the actual speed of the spinning on the PC in combination with the retardation that occurs in the processing of visual perception. Or maybe it's just one of my mental disorders popping up at unawares...ConfusedConfusedConfused

WTF. When I first looked at it she was turning counter-clockwise and then.. I looked at it.
To see if I still liked it. And she was turning clockwise this time!

The fact is... No matter how closely I study it, No matter how I take it apart, No matter how I break it down, It remains consistant.

But seriously that img is freaky.

Some people find joy in knowledge. Some people find joy in ignorance. Some people just enjoy music.

I'm too lazy to go through all the posts, but James's signature has the same effect as the spinning woman.  I tried it..

I love this trick, I can make her spin both ways very easily if I focus on her feet.

It does.

I see both this picture and the spinning woman counter-clockwise each time I look at them.
