Motion Theory are having lots of fun gigging in London at the moment but...

...I am starting up a little sideproject for prog infused lead guitar music...  Here is a taster of what I am up to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMEnUCgRgbw&context=C3066eecADOEgsToPDskIbEnB-w78e5xpNqW30x2Q5

Enjoy ;-)

Just to let you guys know about a gig Motion Theory are playing this weekend in Central London.  Tottenham Court Road Area  Venue = The Bowery, 25th February

Also, we have been in the studio recently fleshing out a few new songs that will be ready for gigging soon.  Then its to the small matter of getting them recorded...

Hey PA

Motion Theory is London based these days. We have a gig tomorrow night in a theatre called the Monto Water Rats. Are many PA users from London?

We wrote up a summary of 2011 with some info on what is to come for the band:

Hello there,

So 2011 happened.  It's hard not to feel like it was a bit of a slow year for MT, because of our tragic geographical remoteness and general business.  Thanks for sticking with us.

Looking back, here's what we got up to in 2011:

We launched an EP. Yup. "It's not as dark as that, Friend" was released from its sweaty little cage into the world.  We're happy with it and with the response it got.  Even Record of the Month from Manchester Music.  We've practically run out of physical copies of the album.  They're quite something, so grab one from the shop if you have a hankering for the bygone days of antiquated storage media, or an emotional attachment to those shiny magpie disks.  Go ahead and download it (set your price, members…) if you prefer. That'd be lovely.

We've been on the radio a bit.  Personally and in ephemeral recorded form.  Nationally, Amazing radio played us for the first time.  BBC Introducing played 4/5 of the EP at various times and "Let's pave over the Sea" made it into their "Best of 2011" Show in December.  Awesome.  There was plenty of local radio action with Redshift, The Cat, SilkFM and Canalside Radio. Check out some of the radio versions (plus random reinstrumentation) on the Members page.

Gig wise, you might have seen us at three festivals: Crewe Live, Rock on the Rocks and BoxJam, see visual and video evidence.

Now we've moved to London, although it's been a bit of a soft landing. We played our first gig down here at The Good Ship, which was awesome apart from a few electricity related incidents of which enough has probably already been said…

We're excited about 2012.  Assuming the Mayan calendar wasn't right after all, and we make it through, we hope to have some new auditory delights for you in the coming months.

For a start we've got a couple more London gigs coming up - this Tuesday 24th January at Monto Water Rats and then a headline show on 25th February at the Bowery.

We're also going to squirt out a new website, as this one has gotten rather creaky over the last year or so.  What we really need is somewhere to host our Farmville competitor.  Watch the website, though not constantly, as you should also sleep and eat sometimes.

MTx

Good news for all things Motion Theory -

Manchester Music's Unsigned Artist of August 2011 - Check out the amazingly nice review!

Perhaps I should have posted this in the reviews thread but I wondered whether that might just be for PA member reviews...

Hi J-Man,

Thanks for that.  I have started a thread  there - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=80552&PID=4258741#4258741

Hopefully we'll get some people listening to the music, if not reviewing it.  Ill have to do some reviews myself.

Motion Theory are enjoying some National Radio Airplay at the moment, but ill keep this thread posted about that soon.

Thanks for the review J-Man.  Appreciate the kind words!

Do you know anyone else who might like to review it?  Love to hear the PA community's thoughts.

J

No problem! Smile

Off the top of my head, no, but I would create a thread here if I were you: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=82

There are plenty of people (myself included) who take a look at nearly everything posted over there, so that may definitely be worth trying! Hope that helps!

EP Launch Gig Videos:

'Until You Leave'

Not our most proggy by any stretch of the imagination.  Just a balls out rock tune really.

'Dead Reckoning'

A bit more proggy....

'Sure It's Chaos But It's Ours'

Much more proggy, with long intro

Enjoy!

Videos of the EP launch gig at the Roadhouse in Manchester here: http://www.motiontheoryband.com/media

We have had Video requests from PA members in the past so I thought I'd share them in case anyone was still interested.

Probs worth pointing out that you can get the new EP for as little as £1.83 ($2.89) by becoming a member of the website

Ok, plugging over... Sorry PA!

If you hear the music and have some thoughts then post them here and we can get some good old chatter going.  Thanks ;-)

I bumped into Steve Hogarth the other day in Oxford.  I wrote in his guestbook and then he sent me an email!  What a legend!

We have some nice, professional looking gig videos to inform you guys of - Have a look at 'Big Boys' where our singer gets a little creepy!

Browse the Motion Theory Video channel on YouTube for more videos from the same gig.

Thanks guys,

Jamie

Cheers JLocke,

I think the lexicon reverb helps the riff along nicely - It is difficult to play without relatively new strings too!

Any more comments welcome from the wonderful PA forum!

The opening riff is pretty sweet. The song as a whole puts me in mind of Muse. I like it. Thumbs Up
