Topic: Mastodon or Neurosis Posted: February 15 2009 at 21:30 |
Here two very different metal bands, one is a very technical complex and one of the real great metal bands of today, the other is a pioneering experimental metal band that has influenced many other bands. The Post Metal genre being really influenced. Im not comparing them just wondering who people prefer more.

Too hard, both are great.
Mastodon, I guess, but by a slim margin.

Mastodon I was fairly impressed with and can't wait for their new album this year.
Neurosis I still have yet to hear, but based on what I've heard, I think I should enjoy them and plan to acquire some of their material soon. No vote.

^Yes. I agree. I think each Mastodon release has been great and enjoyable in its own way, where as I can only really get into two Neurosis albums out of their entire discography (the most recent two), though I see their merit in the other stuff.

Mastodon for me, even though I'm not a HUGE fan of either of them.

Neurosis. Although I only have, and mostly enjoy 2 albums. Times of Grace, and As the Sun...or whatever its called (thats the one I like fully). Anyways, I've tried real hard to dig Mastodon. But I just don't hear anything very worthy of my ears. Before buying Leviathan and Blood Mountain I listened to them both (by "borrowing" through the internet....yeah......) about two times. Then I said, this sounds like it might be good and I enjoy it, but I think I need to hear an actual hard copy with better audio quality. So I got those two albums on CDs. Listened to them twice for Leviathan, once for Blood Mountain. Still don't hear anything special. So I'm ditching them altogether.

Dont really like either too much, but sludge played really fast doesnt really work as far as I'm concerned, so I'll go with neurosis. Besides, Neurosis, is one of the most influential bands in metal history, with influencing Mastadon themselves.

MMMMastodooon. HUGE band. Great riffs, great structures, great technique. Only week point is the production. But that doesn't bother me this much...

Wow. Great bands. Really great. I enjoy Neurosis immensely, but Mastodon just strikes a different chord, one of my favourite modern (metal) bands.

Neurosis for me, their slow paced, atmosferic and really heavy music is more my cup of thea than Mastodon.

Just listening to Purify by Neurosis from the 'archives player. I love Mastodon but I won't vote since my only experiences with Neurosis so far are from a second hand Pain of Mind my girlfriend bought a couple of years ago. I haven't liked it. I also saw some live video from them which was pretty cool in fact. Purify sounds good, I've gotta check how much their albums cost next time I go to the store.

I enjoy both. I have to pick Mastodon, though, if only for Crack the Skye... sheesh what a brilliant album.
