Ever since I heard that beautiful, simple piano piece 'Auto Rock' I've loved these guys. Does anyone else here appreciate them as much as I do?

Yeah, I've been raving about them ever since I saw them live! Excellent group, havent made a single bad album yet! For better piano work, check out Friend of the night.

They haven't really hit me yet. They're nice to listen to but the only song that really produced something like a jaw dropping experience was "Hunted by a Freak" and I believe that was partly due to the visual/audio interaction as I've only heard it while watching the video.

I used to be big into them.  Rock Action and Happy Songs.... were my two favorites with CODY following closely behind.  Then I saw them live which aside from the audience was a good experience, but the album, Mr. Beast, was pretty poor.  Then over the years the rest of the music got less interesting to me and I've basically dropped them from any play time.  Though I still have RA and HSFHP, and a bootleg.

Weird, I think Mr. Beast is their best. Really good melodies, and super chiled out songs. Then again, I havent listened to CODY.

I've been a fan of these guys for a few years now, since my sister turned me onto them before she moved out of home 3 years ago.
Hell, at the time I didn't even realize that this music was called post rock, I just knew I liked it.

Thats how I feel toward them too. I actually find Mogwai harder to get into than most other Post Rock bands, for reasons I have no idea.

And Yes, "Hunted by a Freak" is friggin sweet!
INVOLVED: Electronic/Ambient/Progressive music. A collaboration between member of the post-rock collective BATTLESTATIONS and I. Enjoy!

Same here. It feels like the appropriate next step in the bands progression after "HSFHP" imo.

It's wonderful relaxing background music when I can't take anything else but it's a little too inoffensive to be among my post rock favorites.

Late as always. Mogwai is one of my favorites!

To Ian: Auto Rock > Friend of the Night. Also, Come on Die Young is easily their worst

To Pat: Keep trying! Mogwai took a while to really click with me too, but the effort will be rewarded. Hunted by a Freak is a mindblowing experience even without the visuals, for me at least.

To Ansen: Mogwai isn't always relaxing. Check out "Glasgow Mega Snake" for some pretty heavy in-your-face stuff, just a single example.

IŽm slowly getting into Mogwai. DidnŽt care much for the two first albums but Rock Action and Happy Songs really click with me and IŽll definitely check out the rest of their discography when I get the time.

Glasgow Mega-Snake is a song I wish I'd written. I found Mogwai when Mr Beast came out; I was at a record store and the shopkeeper put some record on, I listened to the three first tracks, asked what it was and took Mr Beast home with me. I was so excited about it that soon I'd bought the rest of their catalogue, but it has turned out that apart from Happy Songs to some extent I'm not too fond of their output in general. They make wonderful background music for reading though, but I don't get much kick out of really listening to them. But Beast is still great.

As unbelievable as that may sound, I have all but one Mogwai album (Rock team)

The band is without a doubt my favorite post-rock band (with God is an Astronaut). I ike the fact that their pieces are short and therefore don't fall in the over-repetition and noodling problems of many other post-rock acts....

^ Wow, those would just about be my ratings precisely.

I predict that you'll be enjoying The Hawk is Howling about 3 and half stars worth. :D
