Here's a handful of some of the most representative avant-prog albums of the 90's, some more obscure than others. If you have a favorite, vote! Big smile

Kombinat-M -- that'll be a new one for me too look into.  And I've been meaning to delve into Doctor Nerve more, since Ereia (with the Sirius String Quartet) was one of my preferred finds last year.  French TV -- I like their albums but never got into any of them in a really big way.  Present's Certitudes is an excellent album, but then Present has released many excellent albums.  That is my favourite Höyry-Kone album, and one I've listened to such much over the last year and a half or so.

Fantomas is good, but not a favourite.  I still haven't explored The Cardiacs enough depite their big reputation and that I like their music muchly.  5uu's Hunger Teeth is very good, but the album of theirs that really wowed  me is Regarding Purgatories from 2000.

I'ma bit torn between Present and Hoyry-Kones.  Present is such an excellent band with a number of really great albums.  Since that became my favourite Hoyry-Kone album (and I know the majority prefer the excellent follow-up) and one that I still play a  lot, I'll give it to Hoyry-Kone over Present.
Just a fanboy passin' through.

Cool choices, though I don't hold Kombinat M as highly as the others, and Dr. Nerve comes next.

Of these, French TV - The Violence of Amateurs and Cardiacs are the two releases which I hold dearly above the rest. Brilliant albums, the both of them.

I can see I have a lot more purchasing at Wayside to do... Stern Smile

Glad to hear good things about French TV, I've been meaning to acquire something by them.  Also strong recommendation from Trouserpress in the other thread for Kombinat M, I'll check that out as well.

i mentioned Kombinat M in the other thread because they are simply NEVER talked about. Hybrid Beat is a lovely album - crunchy guitar, screechy sax, crashing drums. All pretty relentless and dense. It's probably a little misplaced in that list simply because it's never really talked about so can hardly be viewed as a classic in the same way as most of those albums, but I like it anyway. Wink

As for the poll, I voted for Cardiacs. My loyalty demands.

Haven't heard enough to vote, but the ones I don't have are all on my "to hear" list. These results may help with priority sorting.
