Two legendary entries in the dark, acid-folk, prog-folk realm.  Which is the better album?

I need to hear Jan Dukes again before I vote.....its been a while.

Went for Comus here - Mice and Rats was good, but not great for me.

This should be interesting.  Both of these albums have very committed fans.  And many people probably adore both of them about equally.

Well if we forget Comus' second, then Comus win easily.

Sorry, Mice and Rats in the Loft is too noodly and aimless.  I have heard their debut though.  Good stuff.

Call me a complete freak but I like that 2nd ComusEmbarrassed

I've not heard the 1rst JD.

But this poll is the only the two albums shown.  Not the whole discogs of each band.

Hmm, this is really tough... I'll go with Mice and Rats in the Loft this time, though.

This is tough. I went with comus though. I think I find comus a bit more emotionally involving, eventhough jan dukes may have a bit more variation on their album. Nothing matches the complete juxtoposition of violence and beauty found on first utterance. But these are the almighty dark folk bands so darn you finnforest for making me choose. *shakes fist* Smile

Comus

Even First Utterence pales in comparison to the downright dark, eerie and strange 12 minute track, 'Mendle' by Mr Fox. Check it out if you can.

Do 'The Stanley' otherwise I'll thrash you with some rhubarb.

I really like both, but Comus' First Utterance for sure.  It's one of my absolute favourites.  Spirogyra's debut would provide more competition for me.
Just a fanboy passin' through.

Yes, actually I like Spirogyra better than Comus and Jan Dukes, but anyway...

Spirogyra is terrific (I love all of their albums).  I love acid folk, incidentally.

Very very tight, but I'll go right now with Jan Dukes... Sometimes I don't like the Tull-ish vocals, but, anyway, after repeated spins this has become a great album for me.

However, you know, Comus is.... Comus, right? Unique... Apart from Spirogyra, Tea & Symphony comes to my mind a worthy adversary for the mentioned acid folk giants... I love An asylum for musically insane. Acid folk is pretty!!!!
This is not my beautiful house...
