It's pretty close to call actually, but I'll vote for ELP as both Tarkus and the debut would be in my all time top 20 prog albums. DT would only have Images and Words in there!

I'm a huge fan of DT but against ELP I can't ignore the three geniuses...

Hard to decide... but i think that DT would be my election, because they are a band that i listened a lot when i was a child.

EL&P as much as I enjoy DT, EL&P got my vote, just for Tarkus and Trilogy. Both bands went downhill, delivering uneven albums at some point.

I was lucky enough to see ELP's last ever performance at High Voltage 2010 and it was wonderful; a year later at the same festival, DT occupied the same slot. One of the most boring concerts I have ever seen (comparable to Dire Straits in terms of personally witnessed tedium)...we left early for the bar.

This is the second time this thread has been resurrected from the dead
Basically boils down to the Tarkus track vs A Mind Beside Itself in which ELP wins hands down.

Being an old timer and early prog fan went with ELP of course, and frankly I never could understand all the love for DT.....boring music and songs....which is too bad since the musicians are pretty good.

ELP. I saw DT few years ago in Helsinki. That concert ended my relationship to that band ...

To me, DT absolutely crushes ELP. I've always been of the opinion that ELP is one of the weakest bands when it comes to the popular 70s prog bands. Both DT and ELP have the same general issue: that noodling can overpower the songwriting. But ELP takes that concept to an entirely new level. Their self-titled an Tarkus are the only albums by them I can wholeheartedly recommend
