Pat and Rob, I just finished my rosary for both of your loved ones.

Here's hoping for the best possible outcomes.

In the true spirit of the original post of this thread, which was not supposed to be debates and challenges, i share that I have come home to my traditional Catholic roots in a big way.  It feels wonderful.  30 years adrift, lost and lonely, looking for things but coming up empty.  Then I mostly gave up on faith until it found me.
I have found some good pre-Vatican 2 mass options nearby so I can attend our true mass, the Latin "extraordinary form" mass, how the church practiced prior to the unfortunate V2 changes..  They actually have a high mass on some days that is sung with a full choir and classical musicians, very nice.  The simpler masses are fine too, some have Gregorian chant.  But all in all it has been a wonderful reunion for me and Rob is one of the people I need to thank...I was pretty hostile to faith for many years and he helped me without even knowing it i suspect.  Then when Dad passed some things happened that were mysterious and that's all I'll say about it.  My heart opened a bit more...and here we are.   I love the old school Catholic church again and I am home for good, I hope.

Just wanted to share that one post.....I'm not a big talker about these things.  Pax!

Great story Jim - I'm trying to "come home" a bit myself (Catholic as well), through the process of my kid preparing for first communion.  Not there yet, maybe will never get there, but I feel I owe it to myself to give it a shot.

I actually don't know her personally.

We were out of church because of the sniffles and then we went to Florida for Christmas.  We hadn't met this new couple who started attending.

So it was surprise that she would come forward as she did and talk about her illness.  She explained that because of the tumors against her eyes, she couldn't be a paramedic anymore.  She expressed a wish that we not pity her, that we could just love her and help her feel normal.  She was quite medicated as she spoke- she even said so, but still.  She moved me.

And that moment I said to myself,  "I am going to spend every night praying for this woman and her family."

I'm going to pray for her- every night no matter what.

I haven't posted in this thread yet, or only sporadically.
Just sharing some experiences.
I'm reading the Bible with my family after morning breakfast.
Quite a nice experience, actually.
We take a whole chapter, everyone reads a bit.
After that, we talk about things that we think are special, or discuss questions.
After that, we sing if we have time (often not, because of the schedule)
And we pray.
Just wanting to share...

That is great Pat....I'd like to share some more on this but I think I will PM you when I have time instead.

Rob, that is very sweet of you.

Moogtron, I like your post a lot.  That sounds like a great way to spend family time.  I wish more people would eat together as a family with no TVs or phones allowed anywhere near the table.  Talking, prayers, and good food.  Smile

Glad to see this...

Prayer requests,
My sister is having throat surgery at the end of this month to remove some small benign growths and one large growth which they cannot determine if it is cancerous or not.

Two days ago my uncle had a stroke, he is in his 80's but still needs prayer.

Just yesterday, a remote co-worker I have known for 25 years or so was fired, albeit his own fault, and now the situation has gone bad with HR.  He needs prayer!

Rough start to 2014....

This last Semester I studied the book of Ruth and that's what my Cru college Bible study went over too. So much relevance to our lives today (not that all Scripture is not), and foreshadowing of Christ. I love that small book and the Almighty has used it so much in my life with some situations and everything. So cool how He works like that. Highly recommend it. Plan on doing a Precepts study next on Esther. Knocking out the only two books named after women in the Bible.

This is a photo in the first Communion of my nephew:

From left to right: Myself, my mother, my sister my older nephew (He made the communion) and the youngest one.

After years I had a  confession in order to make a communion and felt good.

Great picture Ivan.  Couple of fine looking young lads you have for nephews.  Like your sister, I also have two sons.

Thanks Moogtron, Finn and Padraic.

The funny thing is that my father and myself have an exact photo in the exact place, because we all made our first communion in the same school.

Nice photos from both Jim and IvanClap

You know, it is a strange thing, but I used to consider myself a good Catholic, and a strong believer.

I have not been to mass for a long while now. The older I get, the less I believe, to the extent that I am beginning to become ever so agnostic. I want to believe, but the more I see of a terrible world, the less I do.

I am, I suppose, the opposite to most - by that, I mean that most tend to get more involved the older they get, as the end is getting closer, of courseLOL

I regret this.

Thanks Steve I love that photo too.  Yeah, I don't really think there's anything unusual about faith that ebbs and flows, especially in the modern world.  Our reaction and relationship to the great unknowable questions are one of the spices of life.  I feel as if my reaquaintaince was something that happened to me...not something I made happen.  It makes me wonder if the determinists are right after all (not that I want any part of a free will/determinism thread) LOL  Life's too short.

Cheers man

I'm a lapsed Catholic (though I'm not sure I ever sincerely "believed"), and I can't imagine any event that would bring me back to it (or any other religion).  Haven't been to church since age 19 (now 44).
