Just a short list of bands from Avant Prog (I wanted to fit all the choices in the subject line).  Of course Ahvak only has one album, but I'm asking people to vote for one band whose album you wish to mention in a post -- highlight and discuss.  You don't even have to know it, you could say you're interested in it (maybe you've heard some straming tracks....).  I'm allowing multiple votes for multiple posts that follow what I asked people to do in the Poll Question line (and results don't matter anyway -- it's not a contest).

AFTER DINNER RIO/Avant-Prog Japan

AHVAK RIO/Avant-Prog Israel

ARANIS RIO/Avant-Prog Belgium

GUAPO RIO/Avant-Prog United Kingdom

NON CREDO RIO/Avant-Prog United States

VOLAPÜK RIO/Avant-Prog France

YUGEN RIO/Avant-Prog Italy

Okay, it's not an interesting idea for a poll, nor has any trouble gone into the execution.  I just wanted something to do while digesting dinner (it being "after dinner" time).

For sheer beauty and excitement- Aranis.
For brilliance - Yugen
For fun - Volapuk
For intensity - Guapo
For oddness and quirkness - After Dinner and non Credo
For atmosphere - Ahvak and Guapo

Not a big fan of any of these, but Five Suns is my favorite album by any, so Guapo.

Those who like After Dinner should check out Hoahio, who features one of the After Dinner members and is far superior IMO.  Ohayo! Hoahio! is great album.

No vote. The only Guapo album I have is "Five Suns" which is pretty good. I heard the Ahvak sample on their PA page and was blown away. That's an album I know I'll need to get eventually.

Non Credo!

...Because I seem to be almost alone in being a genuine fanboy (a million thank you's for introducing me, Claire/ Listennow).

- A discography of three flawless albums, with Happy Wretched Family a top five desert island disc in the middle. Extra kudos to them for releasing on of the most exiting albums I know of in 1995, one of the dullest years in the history of music.

- Kira Vollman is really one of the the best vocalist there is, of any period or genre. ...She is by turns an operatic soprano, a charming little girl, a guttural demon, a siren seductress, a transvestite monk, sometimes within a single song...

- Every other american avant band, although I think he's in plenty of great ones, pales in comparizon.

As usual with Logan's polls here's nothing not to like, and I'm a really big fan of Guapo, Aranis, After Dinner and Volapük too. I think Secret Chiefs 3 would have fit nicely, but it would only make it harder to choose.

Seriously, its hard to beat their debut. One of my favorite records.

Ahvak get special mention as my favorite DK project.

Paradise of Replica by After Dinner is simply sublime, IMO. Infectious melodies, quirky arrangements and, most importantly, Haco's wonderful vocals. I've been returning to this album again and again for months now and it simply never grows dull.

I've seen Guapo live, so I'm kind of smitten.

However, I love Ahvak's album too.

And the Non-Credo I've heard is brilliant.  Especially Teeth.

I've heard all these except After Dinner.  All brilliant, except I admit to not really loving Non Credo so much.  If I had to pick a favorite it might be Volapuk, but might want to highlight Yugen - Labirinto d'acqua, a wonderful album that I think would be accessible outside of RIO/Avant circles.

Oh, you won't be disappointed.  A top album, that one.
