This is my request to added; info from AmericanProgster
This is AmericanProgster Frijid Pink biography:
Cool. Ok so for a quick lesson on their career: their first album is called Frijid Pink with the pink cover and band members on top on mokey bars, their second album is Defrosted which had the band members trapped inside an icecube and a blue background. Both of those albums came out in 1970. Then the original singer and guitarist left and in 1971 they picked up a singer named Jon Baker (who was with the Tidal Waves in the 60s) and guitarist named Craig Webb (who at one point was with a garage rock band the Unrelated Segments). In 72 they released their third album Earth Omen, which is a huge change from their first two albums which were mostly blues rock/psychedelic rock with a lot of fuzz guitars.
That lineup didn't las that long either and in 74 the lineup was: singer Jo Baker, guitarist Craig Webb, bass player Larry Popolizio, and the only original member drummer Rick Stevers. In 75 they released their last album called All Pink Inside which is just pure blues rock.
Finally, in 2007 drummer Rick Stevers reformed Frijid Pink and are working on a release date for their new album!
P.S. I'm still trying to find a good site with some sound samples, I'll probably go with amazon.com or something like that. But until then..
Peace!
-Tim
This is the 2nd post by AmericanProgsters with samplers:
Well here are some links to sound samples of Frijid Pink's first 3 albums. Unfortunately I couldn't find any links for their last album. So just listen to these samples and tell me what you think, and we'll take it from there. Its just pure blues rock at its greatest! Peace, -Tim |

Hey Mandrakeroot! Most people who already know about Frijid Pink should give them a chance. Their third album, Earth Omen, is pure prog and I think most here would enjoy. As for their first two albums...Like I said, to me there top-of-the-line psychedelic/hard rock/blues boogie with A LOT of fuzz guitar, I just don't know if there is any prog in those two albums. Well that's my two cents...
Peace, -AP |

Earth Omen is awesome; http://www.headheritage.co.uk/unsung/review/1869 - worth admitting FP for alone IMHO

Only Earth Omen deserves a consideration, because it is much more elaborated than the others. Not a wrong suggestion, but I think there are other proto bands missing that should be considered first.
Maybe the main problem is the genre, because Frijid Pink's album were released after 1970 and proto-prog has mainly bands who made their proggish efforts before 1970, though there are some exceptions. |

Yes, I think prog related might fit better. Unfortunately I think their other three albums will reduce them to being prog related despite what Earth Omen may be classifed as.

So speaking of Earth Omen only, what genre of prog would best fit that album?

It always used to be the policy of this site (can't remember if this is official or unofficial) that if a band has ONE truly Progressive album, then that's enough for serious consideration for the main categories.
Prog Related would suit FP just fine as a band, but I'd guess that Heavy Prog is the only "proper" category for Earth Omen...

Frijid Pink have been brought in for evaluation by the Heavy Prog team. We will be evaluating Earth Omen, since the other albums seem to be much less related to prog.

I have FP first 2 albums... Not so Prog... Boogie Blues Rock/ Psychedelic Rock. But sure with Prog treatment.
Prog Related? ...Yes, but only because FP published their albums in '70's!
Heavy Prog? ...Maybe. But I'm not secure... At the end you would have many opinions against. But it would not be a wrong Prog genre.

I agree with that, Mandrakeroot - their first 2 are good, but not very exciting, Prog-wise.
Earth Omen, on the other hand, is fairly progtastic - like a lot of hard rock albums released in the early 1970s.

It is a very good album indeed, and I hope that it will be enough for them to be approved for Heavy Prog.

Heavy Prog or Prog Related... PA is a site for FP!
Uhm ... But if Frijid Pink is HP... Why Wishbone Ash are only PR? Edited by Mandrakeroot - April 06 2009 at 04:19 |

Which WA album were you thinking of?
I've never thought of them as particularly Prog - maybe a bit Epic Rock (heh - I can make up my own genres if I want - seems everyone else does ).
But then I only know Pilgrimage and Argus - both great albums, BTW. I've got a couple of others of theirs, but they're weak in comparison hence I dont even remember what they're called.

Their first album is awesome, and the second is good too. I've never heard Earth Omen, so I guess I should check that out. |

Nice work guys, but could someone add to the bio that since 2007 Frijid Pink has reformed and are finishing if not working on a release date for their new album. Here's a link to their official website, which is a myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/frijidpinknow
Thanks! |
