From an interview with Steven Wilson http://www.popmatters.com/pm/feature/71943-an-eclectic-master-craftsman-an-interview-with-steven-wilson-4

What can we expect from the next Porcupine Tree album? I hear that it’s a continuous piece of music over 55 minutes.
That’s going to be one disc. We’ve also got some short pieces, which we may put on a second disc. I’m not sure, yet. We’re certainly going to record everything and we may do a double, or we may just put a single long track out as the whole album. It’s kind of a brave or a stupid thing to do. But, you know what? I think the climate is better now than ever to make those kind of gestures because singles, radio, video are more and more irrelevant as every month goes by. If bands are going to make ridiculous/ambitious/pretentious pomp—whatever you want to call it—we’re in an era when you can do that now again. It’s not just about radio and creating these pop songs anymore. That, in a way, is a return to the ’70s and I’m very happy about that.

Supposed to be released sometime later this year (I read September 1, 2009 somewhere).

Sounds like a bad extreme metal album title.
You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Nah, I think he just finished listening to Mahavishnu Orchestra's "Sapphire Bullets of Pure Love" and got scatologically carried away!LOL

I for one say go for two discs. Cool (Though I suspect he will do the usual EP before/after the album  consisting of these shorter songs)

Even though I wasn't the biggest fan of FOABP, this news excites me.

Bring on the Tree!  I first heard them and saw them live about 10 years ago, then forgot about them, and just this past year I've caught myself up, and HOLY COW - what a discography they've put out.  Fantastic album after fantastic album.... what a great rediscovery it was for me.   Can't wait to hear the next one.

LOL

Seriously, this sounds really promising.  I'd love a bit of the atmosphere of Deadwing combined with the spaceyness of their old stuff, plus a some good old space-rock jamming (noodling as some pagans would call it).

That would do nicely.

How did I miss this? Anyway . . . good for Steve! It's about time someone prominent in the Prog scene embraced it for all it's worth and did something ambitious like this once again. I'm very excited about this news.
