i am also a follower of Santana's music which fortunately i knew since i was a kid.
Albums like Santana, Abraxas, Caravanserai or Borboletta remain as favourites of mine.
Talking about Carlos, i love his albums with Mclaughlin and the album with Alice Coltrane, both are marvelous.

Sadly his last commercial records are not the best he could offer.

Santana is one of the few areas where my wife and I's musical tastes overlap.  She's more of a fan of the later commercial stuff, but hey as commercial music goes its not too shabby.  Caravanserai was his most progressive album I think.  There's always hope he'll get tired of the commercial stuff and give us another prog album.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

This is true. But at least this POP phase seems sincere to me and also allows us to still enjoy a great axeman.

Notwithstanding that, even for me this svolta POP little to convince me.

Well... another 'Caravanserai' you say? Uhm... I settle for a non-commercial album of not POP music!
