Thanks, and I think you're right, the landscape version is better. It draws my eyes down to the end of the room. The portrait version seems to draw my eyes up to the ceiling.

Ah, now you have identified the problem. The portrait version gives me vertigo, but the landscape one does not.

it is amazing what a difference a small change in perspective can make.
 
it's also odd that I couldn't figure out why the portrait one was making me feel queasy until you pointed it out.
