Btw I think you got lucky with the light on the second one from the top Dean:-) Looks like a beam coming straight from the heavens.

It was more luck than judgement I have to admit, the weather was dreadful so most of the flying was done late afternoon/early evening which made for some great lighting. I think we managed 4 or 5 flying days in three weeks at sea, most of the time it was gale-force 5 and above. I'd not recommend a cruise around the coast of Scotland in February. At one time, during a particularly unpleasant storm, we measured the angle of the ship at a little over ±5 degrees. That doesn't sound much but when you consider the boat is two football pitches in length and it pivots more-or-less around the mid-point (ie @ 1 football pitch) it means the sharp-end (where my cabin just happened to be) travels 10m straight up, then 20m straight down. The feeling is like being on a 20,000 tonne roller-coaster, but without the vertigo. I did discover that I was one of the few people on board who didn't suffer seasickness, which was nice.

Scottish cruise in february.... Anyway that sounds dreadful, especially on such a huge vessel. I can't imagine that. I've tried sailing to Bornholm from Dragør near Copenhagen, on a ferry, and that was uncomfortable mostly because it was during the night and I was a wee lad. |

I love love love Harriers! (and F-22's) Those are terrific, Dean, and the story behind them! Hot damn! dat vertical landing!
Orly? Well then, I suppose this calls for some counterintelligence operations. I actually forgot you could do that. I'm a Flickr genius as you can see. Yours are in a completely different category: light, gear and most importantly, original ideas. I usually work with what is already there, and when it doesn't come out decently, I just HDR the crap out of them. ;D |

Even though the job is stressful and the lifestyle is uneven I really love it. The competition is tough so I'm always working to stay passionate about my craft

Nice - long exposures of traffic are always cool - very Koyaanisqatsi
I've got a new camera Haven't learnt my way around the menus and options yet, but the initial attempts using default presets didn't come out too shabby: |

those are beautiful! I love the soft effect on the first shot. Is that a filter or an option on your camera?

It's one of the "art" options on the camera. I wouldn't normally use them as they are far from subtle and not to my taste but in that instance and for that subject it produced a pleasant image. Whether it's better or as controllable as a soft-focus filter remains to be seen, but the real problem with built-in effects is you can't undo them afterwards.

Yay! More photos! What new camera did you get, Dean?
My parents got a new 100-Euro camera that takes underwater photos to take it with them on vacation. I got to test it a bit on dry land. Not bad with a bit of PS help (also, Transylvania tends to be depicted as dark and gloomy most of the time, but I beg to differ): Summer 2014 by Not Plutus, on Flickr Summer 2014 by Not Plutus, on Flickr Summer 2014 by Not Plutus, on Flickr Summer 2014 by Not Plutus, on Flickr |

Being an Olympus fan-boy, I got another Oly, this time an OMD EM10. I couldn't even trade-in my old E510 even though it was only 3 years old, in the end I begrudgingly accepted £80 (€100) from a "we buy your old crap" shop but kept the 40-150mm lens, which when fitted to the OMD using an adapter looks positively silly: |
