I still haven't thought about this one enough, or finsishes with the looming.org tracks, but want to get it out there -- will comment more later (other things to do at the moment, but one that should be in the archives -- have added the artist to progfreak). An eclectic list of influences, and is on the fusion/ experimental side (like the Canterbury stylings). Very enjoyable. http://www.myspace.com/luarvikluarvik (short samples) http://www.looming.org/en/snail/sounds/luarvikluarvik (various downloadable mp3s available). http://www.last.fm/music/Luarvik+LuarvikLuarvik Luarvik

If music was an egocentric totality, an embodiment of “mindsynthesizer”, then one can probably name it Luarvik Luarvik.
Luarvik
Luarvik was formed in 1998 by Mihkel Kleis (synthesizers) and Andres
Lõo (drums). They are also the only constant members of the group, the
other members are in constant change. There’s somebody new in almost
every live performance. Among those who have participated are Jaak
Sooäär, Taavi Laatsit, Tarvo Kaspar Toome, Heikki Tikkas, Tanel Põld,
Pearu Helenurm, Mart Karu and many others. LL has also changed it’s
musical form, being a garage synth-grunge in the early days, and then a
jazzrock group influenced by the seventies legends as Soft Machine and
a free improvisation spacerock band. Now all the styles and
classifications are left behind and the only goal is to move forward in
a meta-space and recreate the meanings of things that are passing by.
LL has two albums out. First one, “Baltic Station Session” (2000) is a
documentation of band’s early period with bassist Kert Rebane. The
second, “Tabamata Ime” (2002), contains studio tracks with extended
lineup and Kleis-Lõo duo live performance titled “Journey to the Realm
of Shadows / Improvisation for Two Heads”.
In 2003, LL got a new member called Kiwa (aka Olaf Andvarafors,
connection with Nyrok City and Ropotaator), organizer of metaphysical
sound- and situationist art event Metabor and textual investigator of
LL syndrome and primordial sound.
With Kiwa LL has participated in dada happening “Festival of unexisting
bands”, at undeground festival “Operation B” in Tallinn, with a program
“If I am Olaf, therefore is everything Olaf?” etc. All the members of
LL are also active as visual artists and in February 2004, there was as
their collective effort, a scandalous exhibition at Y Gallery in Tartu
titled “I am a quotation”.
Recently LL has been working with its new material in the studio of
Estonian Radio, and there has been a negotiation with legendary post
rock producer John McEntire about mixing that material.
LL is moving musically and ideologically towards egocentric totality,
being in a way an embodiment of “mindsynthesizer”. Avoiding formal
avantgarde and experimentalism, the main focus is on pretentious
ffw-movement and musical paradoxes. Antistyle and protoart.
