I'm probably alone in being into collecting Library Music here, but I just made a Top Ninety list at RYM (click to see the full list), and some of you should really check some of these artists out. Especially the more experimental ones.
I'm not gonna try and explain it, but Wikipedia says: ...Production music (Same thing) is the name given to the music owned by production music libraries and licensed to customers for use in film, television, radio and other media.... Well, I tried to explain it to Apsalar in my Cinecitta Soundtrack Composers thread, so I might as well quote myself: So basically its "illustrative" soundtrack music "premade" for a movie, documentary, radioshow or similar. Virtually all the italian film composers made lots of library albums. Also lot of french, progrelated folks like Teddy Lasry, Bernard Estardy, Michael Magne, Roland Bocquet, Bernard Fevre, Vladimir Cosma (also Brainticket's Joël Vandroogenbroeck)... Many used psedonyms or were simlpy given some obscure bandname: Gistery and Santani is Alessandro Alessandroni & Romolo Grano, Moggi = Piero Umiliani, Braen's Machine = Alessandro Alessandroni & Piero Umiliani, I Marc 4 = Armando Trovajoli, Lesiman = Paolo Renosto, Eric Swan, Cecil Leuter, Roger Davy = Roger Roger, Blue Phantom, H. Tical, Jean Michel Logere(?) = Armando Sciasci etc, and many albums contains music by unknown/anonymous composers. From my list-description at RYM: ..My top six are all albums that would end up on my electroaqoustic/20th century classical/avantgarde list too, if I ever make one. Although I enjoy whacky moogs, sleazy lounge and groovy exotica, that should tell you something about my preferances. You'll find very little brass, (cheesy) disco and funk here. But still there's just as much lovely melodies, gentle flute and groovy harpsichords as dark soundscapes, atonal strings and spacy bleeps... Egisto Macchi is my favorite artist nowadays Edited by Rocktopus - April 30 2009 at 06:39 |

^If you enjoyed Distortions I'm pretty certain you'll love that Underground-album by Braen's Machine as well. Brilliant, quite complex psychrock.
And yes, do check out Egisto. |
