On the subject of libertarian weirdoes: Who needs Donald Trump with this guy around?
Some choice quotes from the article...
I love that it looks like he legally changed his name to "Augustus Sol Invictus". Edited by Toaster Mantis - October 10 2015 at 07:30 |

In other news, the conspiracy theories about the Oregon community college massacre have already started pouring in.
I gotta admit, it looks like a really strange case if you look at the shooter's background. He's half black but flirts with Neo-Nazi ideology and might have connections to the IRA too? Then there's how when he was in the army, he was stationed at a base rumoured to perform experiments with mind control. Similar rumours about programmed killers circulated about RFK's assassin Sirhan Sirhan and John Lennon's killer Mark David Chapman too. |

My God, this - w.r.t the libertarian candidate - is becoming increasingly bizarre. Is he a libertarian or some kind of off-whack black metal fan? I remember there used to be black metal bands named things like Goathorn or whatever.
This Republican primary has disturbing resemblances to a reality show. And not even the relatively less malignant American Idol variety, but more like Big Brother (called Big Boss in India) where people get to peek into the affairs of celebrities and watch their weird side coming out. Is this a first or has it always been like this and it's me getting old enough to notice it, lol. At any rate, it seems unjust to the voters. I suppose they have a right to expect a level headed, responsible candidate to run the affairs of the nation. Not that things are very different here. We had to choose between a right wing rabble rouser-cum-'development' man, a confused political scion pretending to be Prince Siddhartha and a maverick outsider who sits in fasts after taking office! We chose the first probably because we are not yet as tired of center left/center right candidates and US and Europe seem to be these days.

It's not that strange if you remember that Anton Lavey plagiarized a substantial amount of chapters in The Satanic Bible from Ayn Rand. I also think that Augustus Sol Invictus person might be the same man as this Everything2 contributor. They're both Floridian, have interests in occultism/black metal/political science from a heterodox right-wing angle too.

That's not the part that I find strange; rather that he is a candidate of the Libertarian party.

Not that strange given the base ideologies are pretty much the same, albeit without the occult nonsense. Also libertarianism is a form of anarchism.

I'm reminded of the so-called Neo-Reactionary Movement, a very odd political subculture that's basically libertarian transhumanism spun off into openly totalitarian Social Darwinism. (from Mises to Marinetti, in other words?)

Finally, a child pornographer gets the punishment he deserves - ... 885 years.
. . . I understand the idea of stacking counts, but ... I don't think anyone has ever lived past the age of 116.

Sentencing people to 885 years' prison sounds like something Scientology would do.
People following the upcoming US elections might enjoy this interview with Slovenian Marxist philosopher Slavoj Zizek about them. He dwells quite a bit on Bernie Sanders' campaign, and how it reveals that in the Democratic Party there's a huge gulf between what the party leadership wants and what the grassroots activists do. Zizek also touches on the Syrian Civil War's long-term consequences on a global political scale, since its fallout demonstrates how badly international institutions like the EU and the UN are functioning as advertised... something he reckons will become a major political issue in the near future. |

The correct nomenclature is "chestburster". |
