Topic: Which OS? Posted: April 29 2009 at 04:14 |
Due to a debate over MAC v. PC in the general thread, I was curious as to what OSes you guys use. I noticed from the active users function it looks like most still use XP but I wanted to confirm that.

I haven't tried Windows 7 Beta yet, but I'll get it when the full release comes available. I use Vista Home Premium (32 bit). Never caused me any hassle at all since I got it in December 2007.

I voted other without reading the question. Anyway, I use XP, but I kind of wish I had the courage to go back to MS-DOS.

Primarily XP, though I've really been taken by Ubuntu recently.

I have Windows ME on my old computer and have never had anything to complain about it. Except that it's pretty slow, but that's probably because there's only 64 MB of RAM.

Windows 2000 was sooo much better. It was really just a proto-XP anyway. Both OS were derived from the NT framework, if anyone here can remember back that far :)

XP for me, though since I was the one who started said Mac vs. PC thread, its obvious that I'm not happy with it. I mean, XP in itself is a fine OS, but its the whole package I'm dissapointed with. If I have to pay over a thousand dollars just to be gauranteed a secure system, then by God, I will. But XP in my opinion is the best Windows OS in years, certainly better than ME or Vista.

I've never had a single problem with Vista on either of my machines. I run lots of apps and it works perfectly. I only ever buy Sony Vaios so maybe it is component quality that is the issue.
Never liked XP or any other Microsoft OS though.

Hmm. Yeah, I've heard a lot of people say Vista is great, and others say that it sucks, so you're probably right. I can't really say why I prefer XP over Vista, except that I find XP much more user-friendly and less confusing to work with.
So what OS have you used other than Microsoft? Just curious.

Apparently 7 is really good.
I run XP, but I think my laptop architecture is made for Vista. I have stupid problems.
Problem is, why ever they would equip this PoS laptop with an OS it can barely run is beyond me.

Either Ubuntu or Fedora for work.
Dual-boot Ubuntu and Vista at home. Vista has not proved to be the disaster everyone says it is for me, but I don't do much on that partition besides web.

Vista is pure evil.
I'll go with XP.

I've used Macs (as in worked on) but never possessed one. I also buggered around with a basic linux system in the long longago. My main experience post Commodore 64, is Windoze. Never liked any of the varieties until Vista.
