with Mantis being out almost 4 months now, ive had enough time to fully realize the album's greatness, and also put it into context with the rest of their albums.

My vote goes to Anchor Drops though, as that album is the most diverse in their catalog, showcasing many different sides of the band, yet is also the most cohesive album of theirs. Mantis is definitely a close second, being the most prog rock in sound and structure. LBDOK is third, being their most fun album, and probably jazziest. TBH is 4th, and SIN 5th for me. They're all great albums though, and all recommended to any prog rock fan.

so what do you think?

I only have Mantis and Live at the Murat. Both of them are EXCELLENT albums. Anchor Drops will have to be my next one it seems. No Vote.

Umphrey's is one of the best active touring bands in the US. I encourage everyone to see them. There is a magic to seeing a great band at their peak and I've seen many bands at their peak. Right now, I'd say the only band that qualify are Umphrey's and Opeth for me. Umphrey's is a modern band. No one else does what the do.

Like Phish before them, studio albums are uneven despite an unbelievable live continuity. Phish never had a _Manits_. Buy it, listen, and then see them live. It's what music is about in 2009-10.
You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Mantis hooked me, then I snatched up the rest of the CDs, their DVDs a couple of t-shirts, a bumper sticker...
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...
