Thanks a lot for the VERY useful informationThumbs Up! I bought Mercator Projected a couple of years ago in Rome, and immediately fell in love with it. Micky also loves it to bits, and finds it superior to the band's sophomore effort, Snafu (which, in my opinion, is much less accessible). Now we need to make people more aware of such a great album, which seems to have been very unjustly forgotten by most prog fans.

According to the link provided by Geoff Nicholson, Mercator Projected was recorded December '68 and released February '69.

The following source also states December '68 as the recording month: http://www.discogs.com/East-Of-Eden-The-World-Of-East-Of-Eden/release/1075561

Raff, I fully agree om your appreciation of East Of Eden.

Geof Nicholson send me this reply:

Dan
Mercator Projected was recorded in January 1969 I think. It must have been released in June that year (as I still have some reviews dated that month)
Hope this was of help.
If you want a lot more information about East of Eden there is a Polish website called pearlsofrock.republika.pl with much more information than I have.
Geoff Nicholson

ITCOTCK was recorded in June-August '69 and released in October '69. Hence, datewise Mercator Projected beats ITCOTCK and it could be argued that the former was the first true prog rock album. Also, when East Of Eden is described as sounding like King Crimson (listen to the psyche related parts on Mercator Projected) it really ought to be the other way around: KC sounds like East Of Eden!

I thought that would be an appreciation thread for one of the most criminally underrated albums in the history of prog - which may well have been released before ITCOTCK. East of Eden deserve some more love on this site... I did review Mercator Projected, and hope to review Snafu soon.

Thanks for the suggestion Dean.

It took me a while to find an email address on their site, but I will let you know when/if Geoff Nicholson returns with an answer.

I have unsuccessfully tried to establish the recording and exact release date of East Of Eden's 1969 album Mercator Projected.

My copy of the albums contains two demos recorded in July 1968. So obviously it must have been recorded between this date and the release date.

Of more general interest, it would be nice to know if it was recorded and released before the King Crimson's benchmark album In the court of the criomson king.

Can anybody help?
