Topic: Arbitrary Captain Beefheart Songs Posted: June 11 2009 at 23:09 |
Been on a bit of a Beefheart kick lately so I thought I'd make a poll to compliment.
As the title suggests these songs are essentially picked at random/my favorites off of most of his albums (the two that no one talks about excluded ). Due to only 25 options a couple of albums are poorly represented. But make do. I also didn't include an other so please vote for one of these but feel free to nominate/discuss songs that should have been included as well.
I'll hold off on a vote as of right now.

Yikes! Tough decision, but I went with Hair Pie: Bake 1. Absolutely stunning.

Neon Meate Dream Of A Octafish is certainly a song that can grab one's attention, to say the least.

Went with Garland. If My Human Gets Me Blues had been on there I would have gone for that.

Probably not a popular choice, since it's from one of his most "commercial" albums, but I surely do love Big Eyed Beans From Venus.

"The Floppy Boot Stomp" is the song that first cemented my love affair with the Captain, so for that reason alone it gets my vote.

I've put off voting for long enough.
I'll start by making a top 5 (in no order):
Trust Us
Woe-Is-Uh-Me-Bop
Ice Rose
The Floppy Boot Stomp
The Clouds Are Full Of Wine (Not Whiskey Or Rye)
I think I might just follow Chris...WIUMB from my favorite Beefheart album. That marimba is heavenly!

I'd usuallly vote for Electricity or Big Eyed Beans From Venus but I'm feeling mellow so this time it's Her Eyes Are A Million Blue Miles.

Not on the list, but let's not forget the incredible Click Clack (from The Spotlight Kid). That song takes the rhythm and flips it over and spins it around and somehow ends up right where it started.

I love the Captain. Even as much as I still can't get into Trout, I've enjoyed all the rest that I have tried.
