there is an MP3 for "closure" on this site, that song is off of damnation and is one of my favorites.  before i heard this CD, i didnt like extreme vocals much (remember, this CD doesnt have any) but after hearing it i had to have more opeth, so i got the rest of their catolog and warmed up to the growling.
This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality.
Embrace this moment. Remember. We are eternal.
All this pain is an illusion.

I seem to have a problem with Opeth.  The first album that I ever heard of theirs was Damnation - Simply awesome prog album.  I didn't know who they were before this album.  Since I liked this album I made it a point that I get hold of the whole discography.  What a shock!  Almost all of their albums are Death Metal.  My dilemma is how can a band that releases such marvelous album like Damnation, release Death Metal Music?

Cheers

PS Having said that I still have to say that even their Death Metal releases, musically are very technical, and I don't know how this will sound, and 'progressive'. But the vocals!

Listen and adapt. I did! It may not work for you, but it might

Has anyone seen Opeth live?  I've seen Opeth live twice, and they're great.  Mikael goes from growling to clean singing with ease.  What also took me by surprise at their show was that there was little to no moshing at all.  You would think at a death metal show, people would be going crazy.  Everyone was in ah to see these guys perform.  Like what was said before...I think it's easier to like Opeth coming from a death metal background.  I used to be really into black metal, so listening to Opeth's vocals was no problem.  Now, I pretty much ditched black metal and listen to progressive rock.  From time to time I'll go back to my old black metal albums..but it just doesn't compare to prog rock...

Expand your mind.  Death metal is not so bad.

Come now. I hated the growls at first. Found them unlistenable much like you. Hell, I even made a thread on another forum with this exact title! But eventually...the growls grew on me. Sometimes, they get a little too much, but other times, the contrast they provide is awesome. Plus, Mikael has overall the best voice I've ever heard, both singing and death metal.

One lsiten to "Bleak" should change your mind about the vocals.
