If would definitely take a player of Stanley Clarke's calibre to move Bruford's mind. Yet,  all that I'm reading in his Auto-Bio, he's done with the band scene. However, I don't think that I would rule him out of collaborations for unique recording, benefits or short engagements. Maybe, though being a sideman with other senior talent running the business, is exactly what Bill needs. He should definitely try it if the opportunity arises that appears to be worth while. He doesn't have to have the headaches of running the show, just sit back and play his behind off.

If this rumor is true...

Bruford has done many cooperations: Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe,  with Patrick Moraz and
Kazumi Watanabe Group to name a few.

Likewise Stanley Clarke has done many cooperations with George Duke among many others.

They would make 2 of a perfect pair
Big smile

Sounds like Clarke musing in a somewhat playful manner...though most here are hoping he's serious Stern Smile

Not as far as I know, but in his autobio BB writes very amusingly about recording with "the great" Al DiMeola. Anyways - wonder what Clarke, Bruford and Hiromi would sound like together! Until now, Hiromi has always used razor-sharp fusion drummers. Wonder how she might react to Bill's more subtle approach.

Now don't take this too seriously.... but one way to start a rumour

In the latest edition of Jazzwise, there is an article and interview with Stanley Clarke about the new acoustic SC Trio album with Hiromi and Lenny White. However, it appears Clarke had just spotted something in a copy of Jazzwise handed him by the magazine's interviewer, that produced the following reaction (quoted at the start of the article!). "Bill Bruford retired? I'm a year older. I'll ring him tomorrow to see how retired he is!"

Now there's a thought: Bruford and Clarke together.........
